In a surprising move, Google announced the release of Gmail Paper, an innovative way to process e-mail.
The premise is simple -- and smart. Instead of hassling with e-mail, you let Gmail handle the details. I've beta tested the product for roughly a month and my productivity has gone way up, and better, I no longer have to deal with pop-ups, spam, or even those annoying tag lines in AOL e-mails.

Gmail Paper Competition
Sources at Yahoo say they plan to announce a similar product in late April. "Coding isn't so much of a problem; it's the postage that's killing us," said Dick Grayschvansir, a product manager with Yahoo Papel.
Officially, Microsoft had no comment, but an insider, on condition on anonymity, said, "it's a dumb, dumb idea, but if Google's doing it, hey, so will we."

Call me a moron, but your article is extremely uninformative. What is Google Paper? All I know is that Google is doing something with postage, yahoos is going to do it with a latin flair, and Microsoft will relunctantly do it if the other two do it. What is IT?
It's Sunday, locorooster, and you can call me lazy, but I didn't want to write much more -- especially with all the details on Google's site, --Steve
Doesn't printing off your e-mails defeat the purpose of having said e-mails protected by a password?
There is also the matter of storing however many e-mails you print off....which defeats the purpose of being more proficient (if not, give an example).
Also, it doesn't matter what -type- of plant they use to make paper. It's still a plant, and I'm sure it could be used for something more worthwhile...
These are just some of my first impressions.

Wow! This is amazing. E-mail reduces the need for paper, and Gmail Paper strikes back by printing out your e-mails. This is sheer genius, I must say. I can't wait what they roll out next April.
How counter productive would it be to have people at google emailing thousands of hard copies of emails to people?
Also, why would google announce this amazing new service on a Sunday? Why not wait until monday?
People don't actually believe this, do they??

I find the article here highly suspect.
It's a shame, because it would be a great concept that would put them completely ahead of any competition. It does seem plausible that advertising support could be used to fund it. But the free printing of image attachments on photo glossy paper has me wondering. if it seems too good to be true, it usually is.
