My wife just walked into my office asking for an easy way to resize a bunch of her images. "Just right click on the image -- or highlight a bunch of them -- and choose Resize Pictures," I said.
Ten minutes later she was back. "There's no Resize Pictures, with a right or even left click," she said. I was about to ask if she was sure, but imagined I heard her foot tapping the floor. I decided not to look down.
"Honey, the feature's built into XP," I replied with the certainty of someone who writes for PC World.
Long story short: I was wrong. The resizing tool is part of Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP, a collection of free and handy applets, one of which is the (sorry, honey) Image Resizer.
Take a look at the rest of the PowerToys here.

Microsoft's free Image Resizer tool: Click the "Resize the original pictures" box if you don't want to create copies.
Another handy tool I've been using for a while now, is XnView from France . IIRC, not only can you change size, but shrink storage (with obviously, loss of resolution) and do numerous manipulations, add text notes on the image, read and save many, many formats, etc. Very handy. 73, Phil WA6DZS
