Take Your House's Temperature

It's winter, even in sunny California, and I've always been curious about our furnace’s efficiency. I finally discovered the gadget that'll help me find out.

The HOBO Temperature Logger Kit is about the size of an MP3 player (I used to say a "pack of cigarettes," but that sounds so ancient now). Start by connecting the temperature logger to your PC via its USB port. Set up the software, detach the device, and then hang it on a furnace outlet in, say, the living room. (The package includes various mounting and attachment options, including Velcro, a double-sided adhesive strip, and a magnet.

After a few hours, reattach the temperature logger to your PC. You'll get a date-stamped analysis of the data so you can track temperature measurements.

You could also stick the gizmo in your refridgerator to see how cold it's staying, or in the basement to see if it's as hot down there as you think. The $80 kit includes software, cables, and the logger.

This sounds perfect for my needs. I have a number of uses...
I'm curious low the temperature goes down at night in the garage for our cat Lady Chalupa, in my grandson Tristans room and especially under my computer desk which seems REALLY hot since getting a Dual Core 2 machine.

Thanks,
Bill
