I was on a trip recently and ran into a strange problem. I had a USB flash drive and had to transfer a bunch of files to my buddy's flash drive. Nope, we didn't have a notebook available (neither of us were bright enough to have brought one along).
I wish I had a Memorex TravelSync, a $50 gizmo for just this situation. It's a battery powered portable transfer device that lets me transfer data between any two USB mass storage devices, say, an external hard drive, MP3 player, or a digital camera. Unfortunately, it's not a fast transfer because the gizmo uses USB 1.1.

Philips DVD Firmware: At the start of the year, I mentioned that I've been using Philips DVP642, a smarter than average DVD player. (See A Cheap, Solid DVD Player.)
I received an e-mail from Joe telling me that I can update the DVD's firmware. All I had to do was go to the Philips Web site, grab the update, burn it onto a CD, and play it in the machine.
You can read how to do it in a readme file and then get the download. Thanks, Joe.
PoweSquid Surge Protector: I mentioned the PowerSquid Surge Suppressor product a few weeks ago and got a ton of e-mail kvetching that the price I quoted -- between $50 and $80, depending on the model -- was way too high. One reader said she picked up a bunch for $12.99.
The difference is the more expensive one has a surge suppressor, an essential ingredient, and one the cheaper product is missing.
Kill Some Time
I'm a dog kinda guy. But every so often a cat will do something that impresses me. Check out this video of the way this cat gets over the gate.
The link for the "cat video" in the Jan 23rd issue of Tips & Tweaks doesn't work: well, it takes you somewhere, but not to that video.
Thanks, John. I just fixed the link.

I couldn't get the link to work either. Tried downloading some codecs from the Apple QuickTime third party component pages. Still not succesful yet! Is it an update I should pay for to make the QuickTime video funtion automatically?
Doesn't work for me either... although, at least this time, it didn't give me a 'Server Not Found' page.. LOL...
Forget it
Re the cat video; I got "cannot find Server" second time I tried. First time I got RealPlayer saying the video needed updating...
Hey Steve, that's always a way to get comments -- publish a faulty link. I found that to be true with my ezine :-)
