CES: Light Up Your Life

I think it's a guy thing -- I've got a thing about lights. Flashlights, reading lights, and camera lights. I found two at CES you might get a kick out of seeing.

Bright Book and Notebook Light
The first is a cheap, $10 LED On-The-Go Light from MyLight. There's a little ball -- the light - that revolves in a holder with a clamp on the bottom. I use it to read at night when my wife's asleep; I've also used it on the plane clamped onto the top of my notebook. BTW, one click turns on the white LEDs. A second click turns them into a red light, perfect for night time eye sensitivity.

Smart Lights for Photography
I took a couple of pictures with a digital camera using its built-in flash. Then I tried the same shot without the flash but using a camera light from CameraBright. The result was good -- there wasn’t any red eye, and there weren't any of the shadows you're often stuck with when using a click and shoot camera's built-in flash.

The light screws into the tripod mount at the bottom of your camera. Click the button and four bright LEDs shed light on your subject. There are four versions, ranging in price from $30 to $40, each with different lighting characteristics, such as warm lighting for portraits, or extended range for, say, using with a camcorder. And if you prefer, there's a $13 mounting adapter that lets you use the CameraBright light on your camera's hotshoe.
