More DEMO: Digismart, Accomplice, Freepath

A few more new products from the first block of demos at DEMO:

* Digismart is a technology for building a tiny projector into cell phones, portable video players, gaming handhelds, and other gadgets--it's capable of throwing an 11"-by-17" image. The picture looked really dim onstage, but it's probably not the kind of thing that lends itself well to a demonstration before 700 people; I'll try to stop by the company's booth and see it close up. (The company says the technology could show up in products by the end of this year...but only if it gets enough funding to commercialize it. Many of the companies at DEMO are here at least partially to rub elbows with venture capitalists who are looking for promising startups to invest in.)

* Accomplice is a time-management application that, in broad strokes, kind of reminds me of a modern version of ECCO and other personal information managers that existed before Outlook killed the market for most such programs. (Sidelight: The Accomplice exec who demonstrated the program explained at length why it was a desktop app rather than a browser-based one. You know things are changing rapidly when a company feels the need to defend the decision to make something a program rather than a service.)

* Freepath is a presentation tool designed to let you meld PowerPoint slides with stuff like PDF files, video and music, and other elements. Rather than letting you put media inside PowerPoint, it involves creating drag-and-drop slideshows that can contain PowerPoint slides as well as other materials.
