There have been rumors of a Treo phone running Windows for--well, actually, for almost as long as there have been Treos. And the Treo's manufacturer (Handspring, then PalmOne, now known as Palm) has always been refreshingly honest about the fact that such a device might be a good idea. Which is remarkable given that Palm invented the Palm OS.
Now Engadget appears to have its hands on the Treo 700W, an honest-to-goodness Windows Treo.
Here's their story.
In what may not be a coincidence, CTIA Wireless IT and Entertainment, one of the phone industry's big trade shows, is in San Francisco next week. So here's an educated prediction which could be right, could be wrong: Palm will officially announce this product next week.
I've been a Palm OS fan for years, but my Palm OS-based Treo 650 is pretty darn flaky, and Windows Mobile is getting more and more capable. So if I were contemplating buying a new Treo and could choose my OS, I'd at least consider Windows. Would you?
yes I would consider Windows on my Treo 650, as long as a mouse didn't have to come with it. click click click, surely you know as well as I do that Windows is great technology.
Best software with the best hardware. What a concept!
Lousy software on lousy hardware.
You think it'll be *less* flaky with Windows Mobile on it?
The day I have to give up my simple analog phone is the day I give up cell phones altogether. Not interested in all the "features" provided by "smart" phones.
A definate consideration for me. I would turn in my treo600 if the reviews on this are good.
I also have a Treo, Every Windows PDA/Smart phone has been much bulker than the Treo. And don't forget Windows is a memory hog
What we need is a mobile version of OSX!
Just get rid of that antennae.
NO U!
why do they still call it a phone?
I'll stick with my Blackberry 7100t.
You guys are all G A Y!
I'm glad this P.O.S. Windows-plagued Treo is coming out. It makes the Treo 650 an even greater PDA at a reduced price.
And my Blackberry 7290 will be worth much more even if they shut off the email.
Use to have a 600 and now have the 700W. My take on the 700 is that it's *underpowered, *flaky, *hangs and should be considered a Beta release. Once again Microsoft doesn't deliver. 80% hype and 20% of actual value. The future is not looking good...
