Google Earth: Now You See It, Now You Don't

I'm hearing that some people who try to download Google's ultranifty Google Earth satellite mapping package are getting an error message explaining that the demand for the program is so high that Google is having trouble keeping up, and that it's temporarily unavailable.

I just tried, and didn't get the message, so it's apparently an intermittent issue. Click here to go to Google's download page and see if the download is up at the moment.

I managed to downlaod the program a few days ago, but performance was terrible. It "red lined" my AMD 64 without producing anything interesting. Increasing in-memory buffer to 100 megabytes seemed to make a small difference. Bandwidth use at 1% or less -- sign of web site overload.

Excessive demand may be one problem, but not the only one.

I got it minutes after it was availible, but had connection problems. It works now and it seems to use most of my bandwidth.

I had subscribed to the original program Keyhole, before Google bought it.
Google's imaging is much better than Keyhole was so, I can't wait to see the improvments.

Google did not remove the actual program from the servers, only the link to it! I downloaded it while it was "down" and it is working perfectly.

Do you have any mirrors for Google Earth? I'd be glad to try it.

Can't wait...

I've noticed that the connection to the server gets very slow, oddly enough around 12:00. Wonder why that could be?

How do you get rid of Google Earth when the "uninstall programme" doesn't work?
