This HP Notebook Helps Cancer Survivors

Lance Armstrong is one of the
greatest cyclists who ever lived, but the most impressive thing about the guy may be his Lance Armstrong Foundation and its
LiveStrong program for cancer survivors. And today,
Hewlett-Packard and AMD announced a new HP notebook, the HP Special Edition L2000, that will help Armstrong's foundation help people.
The L2000, which starts at $999 (after rebate), is a 5.3-pound widescreen model based on AMD's Turion 64 processor. It has some Lance Armstrong-related touches, such as the LiveStrong logo and a replica of his signature, and comes with one of the famous
yellow LiveStrong wristbands and matching earbuds.
But the best thing about this notebook is the fact that HP will give $50 from each sale to the Lance Armstrong Foundation. (And HP and AMD are donating notebooks to the foundation for its work.) HP has
created celebrity-themed products before, but this is the first one with a charitable aspect--and it, like Lance, is a class act.
HP says the L2000 will be available at its HP Shopping site on June 22nd, and will show up at retail stores in mid-July. My IDG News colleague Tom Krazit filed a story with
some more details.
What's the graphics card in the l2000?
Nobody will buy it for what's in it... just the name is all people will care about.
With a Turion 64, it's nothing to laugh at. HP made a good choice with this one. They could've gone cheap with a Celeron, but didn't. Aces to HP !!
I'd say buy some hp stock now... If those little bands sold like crazy this notebook will too.
This makes the HP zv6000 series into a nice 14 wide 5.5 pound carry anywhere battery enduring monster. Apparently the Tourion is based for better battery consumption.
It will run your choice of 64-128 ATI XPRESS 200M card. Thats around a ATI 9500-9700 without TURBO. It will run DOOM3 high without shadows.
I'm off to study for my PhD. at UNC-Chapel Hill in biomedical sciences. What better way to say I contributed to the science I will soon study.
buy some stock now, is this so you can profit out of a good cause, i suppose you are an ebayer. This is cancer we are talking about not business ideas for christ sake.
Never mind that profits isn't what is making this "Limited Edition" notebook... Sure you give 50 to cancer and about $900+ to HP
$900 to HP! They wish. Obviously you know nothing about PC margins and the competitive nature of the business. I read the press coverage and they said this notebook is about cancer research and connecting survivors with research tools and support groups on-line. Next time I'm in the market for a new notebook I'll buy one.
I bought this laptop at Frys on Wednesday for my wife. I didn't buy because of the Lance thing, i bought because it compared exceptionally well technically to other models. One thing i really like is the multi memory card reader. I pull my SD card out of my digital camera and directly view/offload the pictures without having to load the useless camera software onto the laptop. The Sony Vaio (the other laptop i considered) ONLY has the memory stick reader. My wife loves the fact that she can watch the baby downstairs and still be on-line anywhere in the house.
I bought this Laptop at CompUSA last weekend. I was actually looking at a similarly configured one from HP and Compaq but this one was $100 less and had better specs AND assisted in a good cause. Who cares "how much" goes to charity as long as "something" does, which is more than can be said of the other manufacturers. I bought it based on it's preformance and it really is an excellent machine (and I love the lightscribe DVD+/- burner). I would recommend it highly!!!
Alot of people are complaining that this laptop runs way too hot. but what these morons are failing to mention is that they are trying to multitask on a 1.6 Ghz processor with a slow hard drive. Ask anyone with a 2.0 Ghz processor and a 5400rpm hard drive if they are having any trouble with heat. There is also a driver uprade you can download that will help that problem and prolong battery life. so all of you who are returning your L2000's are stupid. These are simple problems that are easily fixed. If you are too lazy to deal with it then you probably are stupid or just make too much money!!!
