One of the great unsolved mysteries of computing is truly pain-free sharing of information between two or more different PCs in different places. There are lots of worthwhile tools out there (I'm a big
GoToMyPC fan), but nothing that's really simple in every possible situation.
BeInSync is a new service with an interesting approach: It lets you create a personal peer-to-peer network between your systems, then synchronize files, e-mail, and calendar info over the Internet. The peer-to-peer approach provides many of the advantages of VPNs and other corporate-type technologies, without the hassle and expense of server-based hardware and software. So it's a contender for individuals and small businesses with limited IT resources.
I first saw this at the DEMO show back in February, and it's finally available. In fact, it's free at the moment--but in sixty days, it'll convert into a $6/month service, which will still be a lot cheaper than many options it competes with.
