Apple's New iMac Lineup Fails to Wow

apple-imac-new-models.jpg

Today Apple has unveiled a refresh to its iMac line desktop computers adding faster CPU and GPU options. But if you ask me what makes this iMac refresh interesting is the way it is being received, or more so, not received among the Apple faithful that litters the Internet.

Maybe it's because this refresh isn't very glamorous with only faster processors and graphics options. I ask where are the Mac faithful across the Web not dropping everything they're doing to go pick up this updated iMac and post the unboxings on Flickr. Nor are the Apple message boards and social media sites like Digg and Reddit being overtaken with news and interpretation of Apple's latest duds.

In contrast there is a lot of buzz about a video posted to Gizmodo that shows a customer turning on a Psystar Open Computer running the Mac OS.

Is Apple Losing It's Luster?

The obvious question raised is: Has Apple lost its luster? I would definitely say no, but I would still suggest that people are becoming less receptive to Apple's new releases.

Another question to be considered is: Has Apple run out of ideas? Prior new hardware releases from Apple always included one feature or another that managed to knock the socks off the technology communities. It was only a couple months ago that a simple MacBook refresh shocked the world by included a multi-touch trackpad, but today we see a iMac refresh with no shock or awe.

Of course, if Apple were to have done something crazy like include Blu-ray in the new iMac refresh, sure, the Web would have gone a little bonkers, but I think the time has finally come when the average Apple release isn't treated like the second coming of Jesus by the Apple faithful--it's simply a new Apple product.

Aluminum is so five minutes ago. Apple should have movedon.org to, um. let's see, vanadium? Depleted uranium? Iridium? Astatine? Something really pricey. Oh, and regenerative braking would have gone over big with the fan base, too.

Oh, and the last PC redesign that really rocked the socks of the clones was…? Umm, maybe something lackluster from Sony perhaps? And if Apple is so "ho-hum" then why is it increasing in sales? Why is Apple now holding on to 17% of the market share, compared to something like single digits a few years ago?
No one said that a faster processor, faster FSB and better video upgrade was a massive refresh, but it is still significant (and it was only announced a few hours ago.
Still, I'm happy, because I was just about to buy one of the unrefreshed iMacs - now for the same money I can get more speed - not a huge thing, but a good thing.

LOL u should get out more... Have a look on Google News!!

Apple said that it shipped 2,289,000 Macintosh computers during the first quarter of 2008, a 51% increase over the same quarter in 2007. In a statement on Monday, Apple's senior VP of worldwide product marketing Philip Schiller noted that Mac sales have been growing at a rate 3-1/2 times faster than PC sales.

Also can u get the Imac Intel Chip in a PC with the faster bus speed - I don't think so...

Maybe a Mac Mini totally revamped could be the way to amaze the audience... And to kick out the noise from the louder vacuum cleaner (PsyStar).

Poor grammar! Your section title, "Is Apple Losing It's Luster?" should not have an apostrophe. It's means it is; therefore your title reads "Is Apple Losing It Is Luster?" Instead, you should use the possessive pronoun its. The correct section title is, "Is Apple Losing Its Luster?"

How much did Microsoft pay you to write this article? You certainly don't seem to be getting positive attention out of it.

In truth the internet is awash with speculation of that speedy chip in the new iMac, the faster FSB, a new graphics option to bring better performance for gaming, an increase in memory speed, etc.

Not to mention that they reduced the memory upgrade prices to a very reasonable level and reduced the inflated prices world-wide.

All this certainly got my attention. And quite frankly, the case doesn't need to change for me. I think it's going to be my first Mac computer.

Has apple lost its luster? They only revolutionized the cell phone 10 months ago. But what have they done for me lately?

Macs are overpriced pretty pretty little boxes. Real men use a PC.

Apple evolves as nicely as it revolutionizes. And yes, spelling and grammar is important. Real men don't spout stupid cliches and sound like juvenile idiots. Funnily enough, PC manufacturers are falling all over themselves trying to come up with "pretty little boxes of their own." Then again, it's hard to be observant when one's head is up his butt.
