Facebook Gives User Profiles a Facelift

Facebook profiles have always been relatively neat and tidy - at least compared to social networking sites such as MySpace. But, with the recent influx of applications added to Facebook, profile pages have started to become a bit cluttered. Facebook looks to remedy that with a new addition of tabbed profiles.

The tabbed profiles look to separate a user's profile into different tabs for wall posts, the "about me" information of the profile, and pictures, according to preview screenshots released by Facebook (click on image above for a larger screen shot). Also from what can be seen in the screenshot, it looks like the Facebook news feed and applications will be a part of the tabs.

This is a nice addition for Facebook users. The less-cluttered look always makes for a more user friendly experience. The only question is, how will application developers respond? Since their applications will only appear on one of the tabs, they won?t get as much advertising for their applications as they currently do. Meanwhile, Facebook is trying to pass it off as a good thing for developers because now there will be more room on profile pages for more applications. Only time will tell if application developers will buy that.
