Continental Airlines to Offer In-Flight Wi-Fi and Live TV

continentalLogo.jpgMark another victory by the tech savvy fliers as Continental Airlines adds Wi-Fi Internet access and satellite television to some of its fleet of airplanes. Continental is contracting the services out to LiveTV LLC, the JetBlue-owned company responsible for JetBlue, WestJet, Frontier, Virgin and AirTran's technologically advanced in-air options.

Continental joining the ranks of Southwest and American Airlines that already offer in-air Wi-Fi and satellite television options.

Continental's service will be offered free for first class users and with a $6 fee economy class customers. The satellite television will include channels from DirecTV's lineup and the Wi-Fi is fairly standard, allowing connectivity from smartphones, laptops and the like.

The services will be installed into aircrafts throughout 2009 and 225 aircrafts will include the Wi-Fi and satellite television package by the end of 2010.

It's obvious that airliners need to embrace these technologies, which are becoming more and more readily available, to stay afloat in the air travel industry. And with JetBlue and Virgin Atlantic being two of the most technologically-savvy airliners, I am more than happy to direct my money in their direction.
