Google Dials Up Sprint and Verizon for Possible gPhone Launch

Google is courting Sprint and Verizon Wireless for a possible launch of cell phones designed to run a new mobile operating system created by Google.

According to a Wednesday report in the print edition of the Wall Street Journal, Google is in "advanced talks" with both carriers. Additionally the phones would be "open" allowing third-party application developers to create programs and services for the phone.

The news comes as analysts say the Google phone is inching closer to reality. Just yesterday The Wall Street Journal reported Google will unveil within two weeks its own "advanced software and services that would allow handset makers to bring Google-powered phones to market by the middle of next year."

Before I was thinking this was just another rumor that was never going to happen. I believe that this will happen because of so much press. I also dont know what to think of the success. Everything is limited to the hardware, and Google is making the software. It is possible that Google has teamed up with a good company but it could be just your average phone if you dont have good hardware. (ex:camera, speakerphone, radios...).
