Gateway Goes for iMac Look with All-In-One PC
Gateway announced a line of stylish all-in-one PCs called the Gateway One today which the PC maker is billing as its most elegantly-designed PC yet. The systems are a successor to the PC maker's Profile series PCs, which are considerably boxier and bulkier.
Could this be an iMac-killer? Having seen the systems up close here at the Digital Life trade show in New York, I don't think so. But these systems do look darn good and should be a consideration for anyone shopping for a all-in-one PC. The all-in-one PC space is heating up. Apple just updated its all-in-one iMac, and Sony also has an all-in-one contender with its Vaio LT series.
Gateway One systems range in price from $1300 to $1800; each sports a 19-inch wide-screen display and Intel Core 2 Duo processors. The Gateway Ones come with a built-in webcam and built-in stereo speakers. Wireless keyboard and mouse and built-in Wi-Fi should also help keep this system relatively free of cord clutter.
The Gateway One ZX190 ($1500) sports a 1.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo chip, 2GB of DDR2 Memory, and a 320GB hard disk. The ZX190 ($1500) also has 1.5GHz Intel chip, 256MB of ATI Mobility Radeon video memory, and a 400GB hard disk. The high-end GZ7220 ($1800) ships with 2.0GHz Intel Duo processor, 3GB of DDR2 memory, 256MB of ATI Mobility Radeon video memory, 500GB hard disk, and a TV tuner.
Each of the systems also has seven USB 2.0 ports, one FireWire port, two memory slots, two hard drive bays, and a built-in CD-R/DVD-R optical drive.
Gateway One systems are only available today from retailer Best Buy, which is Gateway's exclusive launch partner for the PC. If you can wait until November to buy one, you can pre-order a system directly from Gateway.
