Westinghouse Digital Electronics wants you to imagine a voice-activated television that tunes to the TV show or movie you want via voice commands.
According to a recent poll conducted by TV-maker Westinghouse, voice-recognition is at the top of a consumer most-wanted list of things they want out of a TV. Out of the 1200 people polled, other top features included a not-so-farfetched touch screen display and a 120hz video refresh rate.
The voice enabling of TVs could be great news for couch potatoes who think using a remote control requires too much effort. That day may comes soon. From the sounds of Westinghouse it may just bite on the voice recognition idea.
"Tomorrow's realities always start with today's dreams and desires," said Rey Roque, Westinghouse vice president of marketing.
Other TV features Westinghouse poll takers came up with were:
* Wireless Capabilities
* Energy Conservation
* Built In DVR
* Built In DVD
* Built In Bluetooth Support (I'm not sure how this differs from wireless capabilities)
I would be all for a voice-controlled TV, so long as the next time I told it to "activate crap filter" I'd never have to see another reality TV show again.
