IPhone Owners Seeking Refund Told to "Sit Tight"

Headed to your local Apple Store or AT&T Wireless store for your iPhone $100 credit this weekend? If it's instant gratification you seek, you may be in for some bad news if you purchased your iPhone more than 14 days ago.

Apple announced it is offering a $100 credit at Apple Stores to all iPhone users who paid the original price - no matter when you purchase the phone. But when I contacted Boston-area Apple stores and called AT&T Wireless customer support about how iPhone owners can get the credit we were told to "sit tight."

An AT&T Wireless representative contacted through AT&T's toll-free number 800-888-7600 customer service phone line told me iPhone owners will be receiving a letter via U.S. Postal Service some time in the next few days detailing their eligibility based on phone specifics and date of purchase.

Details are still very much in the making, an Apple Store employee told me when I called. "We don't really know a whole lot about it," the Apple Store employee said. He encouraged me to keep tabs on Apple.com after the weekend and to be on the lookout for a postal letter detailing how credits would be issued.

How Much Can You Expect Back

Apple says a $100 credit to Apple stores will be given to all iPhone users who paid the original price.

The Apple Store told me it would refund $200 to those who paid $599 for the 8GB iPhone in the past two weeks. Those who purchased the $499 iPhone within two weeks can return it for a full refund instead of taking the credit.

One local AT&T Wireless store I spoke with said anyone who has purchased a iPhone in the past 14 days - regardless of the capacity - are eligible for $200 cash back.
