Apple's iPhone Gets FCC Approval

Sure, we all know the Apple iPhone is coming: I've already been getting teaser e-mails from Cingular, err, AT&T, touting the impending arrival of the iPhone in June, and the Internet is rife with rumors as to the iPhone's expected arrival date. Today comes the best news about the phone short of having one in-hand: The FCC today approved the iPhone for sale in the United States.

The FCC documents offer a few facts about Apple's highly anticipated phone, but not everything; one of the filing documents asks the FCC to keep photos of the phone and the manual confidential for 45 days after the certification is granted.

The documents confirm that the phone is a dual-band GSM phone, with support for 850 MHz and 1900 MHz. It also has Bluetooth and 802.11g Wi-Fi. They also show that the phone's compliance label will be laser etched on the phone's aluminum backing. The label shown here (and other references in the FCC documents) indicates the Apple iPhone's model number as the A1203.

Let the countdown begin...
