Microsoft Ships Fix for iPod-corrupting Vista bug

Posted by Erik Larkin | Wednesday, May 09, 2007 12:54 PM PT

Microsoft has a final patch available for a Vista bug that can 'corrupt' your iPod if you use the Safely Eject Hardware option or the Eject command in Windows Explorer.

Microsoft didn't give us any details on just what happens to a corrupted iPod, but the problem description says that if it happens you'll need to use iTunes' Restore feature. So it's a safe bet you can't listen to the music on the iPod after the bug strikes. Redmond says the safe, Apple-recommended method is to use iTunes to eject your iPod.

The patch will ship via Automatic Updates on Tuesday, May 22, according to a Vista blog post. Or you can download the patch now from Microsoft.
