Hewlett-Packard has announced its new lineup of consumer notebook PCs based on Intel's Santa Rosa fourth-generation Centrino platform. The company unveiled its lineup at its 2007 HP Mobility Summit in Shanghai, China.

The flagship model is the HP Pavilion HDX Entertainment Notebook PC. This massive, stylishly designed and well-appointed notebook features a 20.1-inch display, up to 7.1-channel audio output, and an HD DVD-ROM drive (optional); for a close-up view, see our exclusive slideshow. Pricing for the Pavilion HDX starts at $2999; the notebook is expected to ship in July.

HP also introduced three additional consumer notebooks, available now, across its Pavilion line. The HP Pavilion dv2000 Series Entertainment Notebook PC, which starts at $999, has a 14.1-inch widescreen display, discrete nVidia GeForce 8400M graphics, and a Webcam for videoconferencing. The HP Pavilion dv6000 Series Entertainment Notebook PC, which starts at $949, has a 15.4-inch widescreen, the same graphics and Webcam as the dv2000 series, and adds optional 802.11a/b/g/Draft-n wireless. The Pavilion dv6000 series is notable because it marks the first time a notebook manufacturer has offered the option of an HD DVD-ROM drive on a mainstream notebook line with a modestly sized screen. The HP Pavilion dv9000 (shown above) starts at $1199; it has a 17-inch widescreen display and optional HD DVD-ROM drive and ExpressCard TV tuner, plus it steps up the graphics to nVidia's GeForce 8600M.

All of HP's Pavilion notebooks will now have EvDO as an optional add-on, via a Verizon Wireless V740 ExpressCard option.
