ReplayTV had two big announcements today: It slashed the price on its ReplayTV PC Edition software, and released an update to the company's digital video recorder software (which shipped late last year). The software, ReplayTV PC Edition, is now in version 1.2, and costs just $50--half its price at launch (annual updates will cost $20). According to the company, the new version addresses some issues in the first iteration (including adding enhandced PC mouse-based navigation features). I noted some navigational issues in my review last year.
UPDATE: I have yet to use the update myself, but ReplayTV contacted me to say that the issues I pointed out in that review have been addressed in the new version. Another thing they revealed: They are refunding the $50 difference in price to people who bought the original version at $100. Classy move, ReplayTV.
As a consumer, $50 certainly seems like a more appealing price to me than $100. At that price, I might consider turning my PC into a DVR after all (though I still don't plan on ditching my TiVo any time soon). What do you think of the new pricing?
