Yahoo Outage?

Posted by Ramon G. McLeod | Wednesday, November 29, 2006 9:18 PM PT

We're getting a lot of reports of outages for Yahoo email and other services. Are you experiencing these problems, and if so, where are you located?

I'm in California, and it seems to be working fine.

I'm also in California--in the Sacramento area--and currently (10:15pm PST on 11/29) it's working. However, I've noticed that Yahoo email is frequently offline, sometimes for a full day, now that AT&T has taken over SBC. On top of that, sometimes, for no apparent reason and certainly due to nothing I've done, my email client (Outlook 2003) can't talk to the incoming POP3 server (though outgoing server is fine). So I think they have some AT&T technicians monkeying around with things, and they tend to break things more often than they fix them. It's frustrating and I'm quite close to switching ISPs...

AT&T didn't take over SBC. AT&T split up so as not to appear to have a monopoly long ago, and became Bell South, then Pac Bell aka Pacific Bell, then SBC for a new look bring in more customers, all along still owned by AT&T, now there are no worries about a monopoly, and its joined up with AT&T again because they were losing the fight against cable companies in certain areas. I know this because my sister worked there when it switched from AT&T all the way through, and back again, and now she's one of the top dogs for them :)

Yahoo mail seems fine, and so is the messenger, only problem is the yahoo voice, it won't always work, and I guess this might be the reason. I live in Southern California too.

Yahoo was definitely having problems last night. I wasn't getting any pop mail all evening and I noticed even flickr was having problems downloading images. Too bad they won't 'fess up to it

I live in Orange County, California. I too was having horrible problems 10/29/06. I frequently encounter problems with all their services now. I can't even sign into "My Yahoo" page anymore. Every time I want to sign in, I have to reenter my name and password. It's really a "Pain in the Neck"! Everything was working great before AT&T bought out Yahoo. Now my email program has trouble connecting to their servers. Big problems with incoming and outgoing messages, also Yahoo Messenger has lots of problems/bugs. Keeps booting me off when I'm chatting...very irritating. I have noticed this with a lot of take overs....the new company comes in and thinks they can make everything better by changing everything, but instead they "MUCK" everything up. AT&T, I have a suggestion: IF IT WORKS.....DON'T FIX IT!

For the record: AT&T was forced to break up 1-1-1994 into 7 so called Baby Bells. As time went on some of the Baby Bells merged and changed their names, i.e. Verizon, BellSouth (BST), PacTel, Southwestern Bell (SBC) , etc. Then a couple years ago SBC bought out AT&T, and changed the combined companies to AT&T Corp. Now that company is in the process of merging with BellSouth. The final approval of the FCC is all that's needed to finalize the merger and that is expected any time. To my knowledge, AT&T Corp. has not purchased Yahoo and has no immediate intentions to do so. How do I know the above? I worked for over 30 years for BellSouth (BST).

I live in Orlando, Fl and my DSL ISP is BellSouth. Only problems I've expirienced with Yahoo is at times downloads will pause for long periods and at other times when I go to forward a message with Yahoo, I only get a blank page. Sometimes it takes numerous back and forwards to finally get the forward page to show up like it should.

I am in Mobile, AL and our company has experience numerous instances of email problems with yahoo mail. It will often take from 30 minutes to 24 hours for an email to arrive to the recipient's computer. However, if the sender is using some other email service (hotmail, msn, etc) yahoo mail receives those email quickly. The delay only occurs when the sender and receiver are both using yahoo mail.

Yahoo (or possibly their content delivery service network Akamai) was defintely not responding to pings from my network (Comcast, in northern California). Their mail exchangers seemed to be fine, but not their web servers. Other sites were fine from my network. I'll post some pings to show what I'm talking about.
First ping, shows a local provider is fine from my network:
bash-3.2$ ping 63.251.62.1
PING 63.251.62.1 (63.251.62.1): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 63.251.62.1: icmp_seq=0 ttl=49 time=31 ms

I am in Pakistan. What happened was that I logged in--first unusual thing that I noticed after logging was that the "sign out" link had been replaced by "sign in" although I was already in to my Inbox and could open emails. One hour after that when I re-logged in, there was no service (at 0500 GMT on 10th Dec 2006) for two hours.

I am from India. Since yesterday (September 16,2007) 9 P.M (IST) when I sign in yahoo, in the email I receive I can only view blank content page.I have no idea what is the reason. The problem still continues.
Probably the yahoo people maybe doing some maintenance work with their e-mail service?
Recently they announced they will officially close Yahoo! Photos on Thursday, October 18, 2007, at 9 p.m. PDT.and advised
users to move on to other photo sharing services.
