Sony today announced that its new
VAIO VGN-TX series of ultraportable notebooks will include integrated broadband-capable wide area network technology.
The company said that the TX laptops will be able to easily connect to Sprint's
EvDO Power Vision Network, which the communications company expects to upgrade later this year with
EvDO Revision A technology (only in selected markets, however).
Revision A is supposed to greatly increase the speed of broadband uploads, so this service (and perhaps this laptop line) will be of interest to those who will be uploading lots of video, for example.
Sony says VAIO TX notebook users should expect to benefit from average download speeds of 450 to 800 kbps and upload speeds of 300 to 400 kbps in the markets where EvDO Revision A network improvements will be rolled out.
The TX ultraportables also will be enabled with Sony's SmartWi technology, which includes wireless WAN, 802.11 b/g, wireless LAN, and Bluetooth technologies.
The TX series ultraportables, which will weigh less than 3 pounds, will have Intel Core Solo processors, 11.1-inch widescreen displays, and Sony's Instant Mode, which gives you access to your digital entertainment without booting up the PC.
TX series ultraportables will have carbon-fiber cases in several colors. Here's a TX in sienna:

Pricing will start at about $2,300.
