Antivirus Software for Windows Vista Beta 2

CA is offering a free beta version of eTrust EZ Antivirus for
Windows Vista Beta 2 users. The one-year trial is available for download on
CA's Web site.
Primarily, it's changes to administrator rights management and the Windows Security Center that make old versions of CA's antivirus software, and likely any antivirus software, incompatible with Vista. According to CA Director of Product Management Stefana Ribaudo-Muller, a virus scan that detects malware affecting another user's account will bring up a dialog box asking for the rights to clean that file.
Vista will include Windows Defender antispyware and an inbound/outbound firewall, two major components of most security suites. This raises the question of how much additional security protection the Vista user will want from companies like CA.
"We're not reducing our feature set," says Ribaudo-Muller, who says that CA is working to make sure that its security products work well with Vista components.
Right now, there are no real-world Vista security threats, although a
proof-of-concept virus exploiting a command shell vulnerability was published last year.
Vista is totally useless until software manufacturers step in and actually make softwares for it. I'd rather prefer the Linux then windows.
Linux/BSD + Cedega + Wine = Windows - crappiness

My word! First it's delayed, then rumors of truly robbery-level pricing, and now we're talking about security exploits and the thing isn't even out, or even close to being out, yet!
It's really starting to feel like I am on my last retail purchase of Windows right now.
You guys are looking at this all wrong. When you sit at the top, people do nothing but try to break you, and Windows will be a better product because of it. For those of you who run flavors of Linux, look on the web and you'll see that its vulnerable also. As time goes on, with the developers gobbling up and fixing their code within Microsoft, it'll only get better. What other OS offers so much with such a friendly interface? God bless capitalism.
Jon Parrten, saying "Vista is totally useless untill software manufactures steip in..." is a completely bone head statement. I recommend you visit a site called extremetech and read an extensive article, titled, "Why Windows Vista won't suck" Obviously you don't have a clue about the major improvements and the underworkings of Vista by making a stupid and moronic statement like that. Get educated about the code and details of Vista before making yourself look like a complete retard on the subject. You people who are promoting "Linsux" over Vista need to reduce your meds dosage. The two aren't even worth mentioning in the same sentence. Vista puts Linsux to shame and is simply the most complete and awsome operating system hands down. I know Mac heads will disagree but hey, lets face it, this is a Windows world and over time Vista will just get better and better, giving a decisive edge to Vista. :-)
"over time Vista will just get better and better, giving a decisive edge to Vista."
What makes you think Apple or the GNU/Linux community will stop innovating themselves? By the time Vista is released, large strides will have been taken by both competitors - especially since their pace of development is far greater. Furthermore, businesses typically do OS upgrades only after the first service pack comes out. By that time, Mac OS, GNU/Linux or even BSD would have reached a level of maturity easily rivaling or surpassing that of Vista's. Finally, with the rise of cross-platform web services like Gmail and OS virtualization technologies like Xen, the OS-centric mindset will gradually fade away, negating the effects of Windows' previous market hegemony.
I am interested to see how Vista works out. No matter what comes out some people have nothig better to do than to cause problems for those of us trying to get along in this world. I am a budding designer looking for new ways to be creative so I will be looking forward to new hardware and software to up my creativity. Microsoft will just have to be as busy as they are now trying to keep the bad apples at bay. Go for it.
To Microsoft_User2006:
I agree with you that Microsoft's market-leading position does attract the idiot element, but that's just one of the three strikes, the biggest being the rumor that the better of the two home editions of Vista will cost some $500 (I hope that isn't true). I just cannot find justification for spending that kind of money on an OS, and when that is combined with the nervousness created by delay after delay, and then to be hit with the world's first release of security software for a BETA product, it just piles wariness on top of wariness.
i'm just hoping that the rights management issues actually translate into better security from viruses and malware...but there's no such thing as an OS that's 100% immune from viruses...i'm hoping the price was a misquote...because there's no way that i'm going to buy it and still have to buy new hardware and software as well...that sort of price is going to invite widespread piracy...
Dear Host,
As you claim it is free for potecting the PC. Is it good for the window 98 too ? is it better than Macfy or not? and How long it will be free? thier after what will be the .............?
Hey Guys,
I am not really a microsoft fanatic and I am not against Linux, but most of those saying that MS sucks and Linux is the best I think you should look at other perspective, what If Linux is really better than Windows, would you waste your time exploiting Windows vulnerabilities and make virus and worms and trojans for MS windows, than on Linux... I DONT THINK SO.... You see they say Linux is less vulnerable than Windows but I don't believe it, its just that more of hackers and virus makers focus more on Windows because it has the biggest market to hit...anyways where would you rather throw a stone to hit a fruit, those fruitfull trees or those trees with less fruits....
what is vista
OK we are talking about a beta here. Now people are expecting programs to work seamlessly, new apps to be ready go be installed, drivers to be readily available? in that case it wouldn't be a beta it would be on the retail shelves. I have the beta and it looks gorgeous, I think the windows interface is fresh and will give the windows users a change from what they are used to. I don't care if they got it from Mac, those who don't use Mac wont care either. Also to say one OS will reign supreme is silly there can be a majority but until everyone starts thinking the same and acting the same there will always be choice and preference so lets not tout our decided OS as reigning supreme.
I've recently downloaded 'Vista' Beta 2 and installed it on a seperate drive within the same laptop running XP Pro, so that I have the choice of two operating systems ie. XP to fall back on for running the majority of my programs. Next, I also added Office 2007 beta which runs on Vista AND to complete the security features I downloaded and installed the 'eTrust EZ Antivirus for Windows Vista Beta 2'... Firstly, once Vista is installed - I was impressed that on powering up the PC you are given the choice to boot up with either the OLD XP windows system or the new Windows System (Vista) which is default. Don't do what I did and waist time initially installing Boot Magic and creating system nightmares like I had, if only I knew all along that I did not have to waist time doing that.. had to do a system reinstall in the end, but at least it gave me a clean computer for installing Vista... For years I have drooled over the 'visually appealing' Mac User interface with envious eyes and have both begrudged and hated the laborious, drab, dull, bog-standard and incredibly un-inspiring visual user interface of nearly every Microsoft operating system ever to be released until now! Windows Vista Ultimate with 'Vista Aero' enabled is actually quite impressive, the more time you spend with it and experiment with things like 'windows flip', 'flip 3D', resizable thumbnails on the fly and many other things, the more you realize that it has awsome potential. And the 'transparent glass-like' effect of windows borders is simply stunning (although I had to update the graphics card THEN roll-back the driver update to kick-start the full effect of proper transparency - must be a glich)... Of course there are many, many other amazing things going on in Vista besides the visually impressive Vista Aero user interface and this is ONLY a Beta release. Naturally some of my laptops features/devices don't work properly like the in-built bluetooth, the display brightness hotkey's, the Dual-Layer DVD burner drive is slow in reading and some other feature such as the UPEK finger-print scanner, etc. But it is only a Beta and these things are expected initially, I just hope these device manufacturers pull their finger out and jump on the train more quickly, more so that they don't leave existing users in the lurch and that they actually make an effort to provide updated drivers for current devices and more importantly submit them to Microsoft so that they can easily be intergrated into the Windows Vista Update tool making it as painless as possible for users to adapt to Vista, both pre-release Beta versions aswell as future releases... Finally all I can say is that I was considering getting an Apple Notebook Pro for some time now, to enjoy the 'eye candy' user interface experience that Mac OS-X has to offer, BUT Microsoft might have just saved the day with Vista... 'Asta-La-Vista' Apple OS
Hay could any one tell me..wich one is the best for vista pc-cillin or etrust
