Rock On! Guitar Hero 2 Interview And Hands-On

Regular readers might be aware that more than a few of us at PC World are big fans of Guitar Hero.

As such, we made sure to catch up with developers RedOctane at E3 to discuss Guitar Hero 2, slated for release this fall.

As you'll see in the video, there will be more than 40 new bands, 15-20 unlockable up and coming indie rock acts, a new practice mode and even a rockabilly character.

The biggest new feature is the multiplayer co-op mode, where one player is one bass, another on rhythm, and both share rock and star meters that are used to judge performance. Take a look for yourself...

"Take a look for yourself..."

It's a game. No one is claiming to be a musician. Get over yourselves.

No...it's real. It really is real. And now I can take my guitar hero guitar with me wherever I go and rock out for people...real people. I can play on a street corner and people give me lots of money. Best game I ever bought!

No, I don't play guitar.
I'm clumsy.
I would break all the strings everyday.
I play Guitar Hero, because I would like to be a guitarist.
And just because I don't play guitar doesn't mean I'm not a musician.
Guitar isn't the only instrument out there.
I play a classic instrument.

Aside from the idiots who think they are so cool because they can play Smoke on the Water on a real guitar,
I'm excited about this game.
Whoo!

Well, I do play the real thing. But i still love the game. See, i am able to realize that its meant only to be a game. Its meant to be fun, not instructive. As with any great game, it provides the opportunity for regular people to live out a fantastic life. No one out there really thinks that because they can survive the various levels of difficulty on there PS2 guitar controller actually thinks they have become masters of the actual instrument. Futhermore; since the release of Guitar Hero much respect for the actual guitarist and the years of effort he/she devotes to the craft. By playing the game, respect is gained not lost for the real artist. (the player must be thinking if its this hard on a single string five position electronic version imagine what its like with say... 24 frets and 6 strings). Don't believe me? read this: http://dubiousquality.blogspot.com/2005/12/guitar-hero-2.html
Also, in the game, one of the loading screeens says: "At some point, you should think about buying a real guitar." I think that makes it pretty obvious about the games intentions and purpose. Its a game. Not a guitar. end of story

I've been playing guitar for many years now and am an avid fan of the game. It's one me and my girlfriend play together quite often and we are patiently awaiting the second serving. As for the other "gentlemen" who made the sarcastic remarks. All I can say is seems like your a little bitter from the music industry beat down so i wont waste my breath heating up arguements instead I ask all other readers to pity you and to keep rocking out on this game.

Playing guitar hero is not a simulation of playing guitar. BUT, if you do play guitar, it gives you a huge edge. I was able to bypass easy and medium and just play on hard. Sometimes even on expert. I ahve played the game 3 times now. lol

I played a sell out gig for 15,000 people using only guitar hero, was proclaimed a rock god and NME said I was the love child of Hendrix and Clapton.

Some of the above wasn't really true. Much like the game. Get over it, for gods sake, we know it's not a real guitar!

i just signed for playing in houston in may of 07 for a sellout 80,000 concert with my Gh guitar i plan on playing on expert for hours on end beating bark at the moon and ziggy stardust multiple times with major and minor whammy then ill light it on fire in the end hendrix style and bust out another one to then beat the game in front of everyone on the secret bonus "insane mode" where there are 8 fret buttons and multiple classic such as layla purple haze and of course more ozzy. they all will rejoice and call me the son of clapton and ozzy :)

I play Thrash Metal in a real band, and I think this game is cool as F@%#!! The rest of the band loves it too. This game gets people back into music again. , and I think that's important. Rock On Brothers
