Microsoft Going to War with Google and Yahoo?

Financial analysts believe Microsoft is getting ready to spend a ton of dough to battle its two great rivals, Google and Yahoo, according to the
New York Times.
Assuming that going to war means coming up with great new products like
Google Earth and the new
Yahoo Mail (Memo to Bill: both are free), this war could be a wonderful thing for consumers.
But it's hard to know in exactly what areas Microsoft will try to take on the Web giants. In the past year or so, Redmond has created
Windows Live Local, a fine mapping and local information service. They've also tried to improve their
search and
Web mail services, with mixed results. And
Windows Live and Office Live, Microsoft's latest entrees into software as a service online, seem incomplete so far.
So what's next? An overhaul of MSN? Expansion of the Live services? Or something completely different? If you were Bill Gates, what would you do to strike back against Google and Yahoo?
There's nowhere left to go, Bill. You've stolen all you can steal and you've been at the top. Google and Yahoo and many other are beating you at your own game. Get out while you can because the losses you're about to suffer are going to embarrassing.
dont make the mistake of underestimating microsoft
Go Bill! I think he can really do it, considering microsoft to be such a reliable and trustworthy company...
:) Competition is good for the masses, though. In a true capitalistic environment... Microsoft would be the only option at this point, and that wouldn't be good for the masses. Cheers for imperfect capitalism.
Yes, especially when my brother is one of them!
Well, I think the best thing for Microsoft would be to come up with something NEW. Competition doesnt really exist anyway. Its impossible when everyone is so unique - think about it. From someone comes something. So lets just hope its something new rather than the usual old similar!! And in the meantime have fun and enjoy life more. You know it makes sense xx
I think we are seeing the start of Net War I, then Apple will get involved, creating Net War II, and lastly, Linux will be so down that they will get involved overtaking all, and preventing Net War III.
I worry about Windows Vista -- it will make business just that much harder for its rivals. Little signals are already trickeling through: anyone else notice the 'searchbar' application in the beta version of IE 7? It is irremovable, and automatically set to Microsofts Searchengines. As it is sure to be shipped 'free' with Vista, what normal user is going to look for an alternative searchbar?
ahem, I have no difficulty at setting my default search engine to google in ie7...
Why does everybody seem to LOVE demonising MSFT? They are just as bad as any fo their rivals... including google!
I mean, look at google, does it have a link to the microsoft website? no! Who will bother searching for another search engine?
Win the best :)
EmuLOAD, just consider the fact that A. it is not simple to replace the MS search to another, and B. shipping it out with OS greatly reduces chances one will look for alternatives.
Let's hope EU case vs. MS will prove me right on this point.
I read yesterday that Ask.com's ceo is working for Microsoft on their Live and MSN search engines.
Let me clarify the above: EX-CEO of Ask.com, not current.
Koop, I have IE7 and the search bar was very easy to change to Google. How easy is it to change Mozilla's to MSN? At least Microsoft makes it easy, all you do is click on it and it takes you to a page where you can choose which search engine to use.
I have no problem with Microsoft. For the most part, they make good products. Aside from Windows, everything they do is pretty much free. MSN Messenger is my chat program of choice, for instance. I'm not sure why so many view them as evil, I don't think they're opposed to a little competition.
Works the same way in Firefox, except Firefox did it first.
Empires don't collapse overnight. They slowly degrade. So slowly that you don't actually notice the moment when they are no longer an Empire. So, one day you look and realize, "Oh, they're no long an Empire any longer. When did that happen?" and then everyone begins to discuss when the tipping point was.
Microsoft will slowly lose marketshare over a very long period. But, they're still likely to remain the dominant player. But, the dominant player in a mature industry (which this isn't), which means about a 60% marketshare, with a strong competitor at about 30% and then everyone else eating up the rest.
That's typically how a mature industry plays out. This one may become more segmented by product type, but don't expect some watershed day when Microsoft suddenly collapses as the masses rejoice. It won't happen.
If Apple had the guts to give up it's boutique business and sold OSX for PCs, it would happen much faster, but Steve Jobs doesn't have the guts.
As a result, Google, Yahoo, Apple and Linux will just become increasingly bigger players over a long period, each focusing on particular products and making inroads.
Hello..
I have nothing to say but that Microsoft( I use since 1987) made an amazing job that revolucionized my life and ..you may say all world... without them , google wouldn't exist, neither yahoo ...
I greatly thank Microsoft work...I also love Google..
But Yahoo I don't know what is good for.. never use it..neither linux..
Long life to Microsoft and Google...
what? if i were bill gates what would i do? are you working for microsoft? any good ideas should go to the other guys who have become big because they got better. competition is a good thing
I would shit in paper bag. I would then light bag on fire. Set it on google's dorrstep...knock and run. OWNED!!!!!
Mah shiht is on yo shoes, bitch!
What if they threw a war and nobody cared?
Bill, go ahead and declare war. Create some new really cool stuff, and see who cares. You already have large corporate America in your pocket. They might buy your new stuff. But the rest of us...we like being rebels. We like going against the grain. Maybe when Google rules the world and Microsoft is little more than an after thought, maybe then we will rebel against them and move back to you. Maybe...
Go Microsoft u can do it but focus on the stuff you've got or just go ahead and bye google even though there search is better and free stuff all around but if u do bye it dont change a thing just add on like merge the to services
Time for Microsoft to appear on the 'fucked companies' list.
I think Microsoft needs to stick with what it does best, and thats Windows Software. They should make it as open ended as possible so good developers can create awesome products, and they can just take away some of the credit.
Instead of fighting a loosing battle with Google and Yahoo, MS needs to find ways to cooperate with them and improve the experience for the customer.
Game over for Microsoft...it cannot innovate, copycat days are numbered.
fools...all of ya.... Haven't you seen the at the end of the movie about Bill gates when Steve Jobs whines about having the better system and that MS is just a copycat? Bill's reply... (paraphrasing) so what... I'm still number 1.
My point. The little guys are the innovators. They are hungry and creative. But w/o the older, wiser big guys, things don't commercialize and standardize. Long live the process of change!
Its the war between innovation and conservations. So u know innovetors will win for sure.
the greedy ---- should take note of the free part and maby hell notice a bigger following in microripsofts popularity or he can charge an extreamly high price as per microripsofts usual standard and have us figure out a way to beet him again remember he dont work now just spends 50.000,000 on a house greed is going to destroy microripsoft!
How similar is it?
UK Empire Microsoft
Germany Google
After War II
US We don't know yet (Ebay ?)
