IE7 Beta Doesn't Like Norton Internet Security

Posted by Erik Larkin | Tuesday, March 14, 2006 4:50 PM PT

If you've been thinking of trying the IE7 Beta, keep in mind that as a still-in-development program, it might not play nice with your existing programs - like the Norton Internet Security 2006 suite. Per Symantec, NIS will continue to work if you install the IE7 beta, but you'll get visual glitches and error messages when you bring up the display.

There's no problem with the standalone Norton antivirus program, and it's a safe bet that the incompatibility will be ironed out before IE7 is released. But it's good to keep in mind that this is something to watch out for if you like trying out the latest and greatest betas (like me).

Thanks much to savvy PC World reader John in Colorado for this tip.

Why exactly does clicking on the "IE7 Beta" link take me to a furniture store?

"Made of wood and wood composite" just like Symantec is.

Well, there's finally something to give IE some real credit for. (LOL) I don't like Norton Internet Security either!

Is MSN trying to squeeze out Norton?...or take out a little bit of the market share?...probably. MSN knows what it is doing. They will fix it - but only after making Norton look bad, and raising suspicions about Norton.

MS is like Star Wars trying to take over the little republics like Norton. Can you say "merger" or "buy-out"?

Norton has always been a terrible program, it has always wanted to take over your computer. I run IE 7 and CA with no problems whatsoever.

IE 7 also won't play well with McAfee. I bet it works fine with OneCare. I can't imagine :/

OneCare scrambled my dial-up, its' Tune-up deleted my CD-DVD slot, lost my USB DVD burner and consequently couldn't restore my files that it made me back up every 5 minutes.
