VoodooPC Announces a 19-inch Notebook

B_voodoo.jpgThe heavyweight category doesn't just pertain to boxers anymore--it now applies to notebooks. The Envy Heavyweight u:909, a new behemoth of a laptop from VoodooPC, has a 19-inch screen, and weighs in at 16 pounds.

According to Voodoo, the Envy's huge screen will be suited for gaming and graphics thanks to its 1680 by 1050 resolution. It will be powered by an AMD Turion 64 processor, and come with either dual nVidia SLI or ATI graphics, so gamers will likely have a field day with this huge machine.

But at 16 pounds, will anyone actually want to drag this thing around anywhere? I'm intrigued by the Envy's huge screen, but I do like being able to grab my notebook and go--not really an option with this big lug. And the Envy has a price tag to match its mammoth size; it costs $5000--to start.

I haven't gotten my hands on one of these yet, but I'm hoping to soon just so I can see what 16 pounds of notebook really feels like. What about you?would you be interested in an expensive, but gigantic, notebook?

Due to my visual impairement, 19" is great, plus, I do carry around for traveling.

But $5000 is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY OVER-REACH FOR ME!!! Wow...

The fanciness sets me back that price...not the processor or graphics chip... :(

Perfect for me - using it only in hotel rooms anyway. But with 5K price tag I will only be able to afford Motel 6..( Hope some of the other big dogs will come with something like that soon

Useless imho... lappy with 17" wide, 7800gtx and 120gig 7200rpm.. to play games basically has to be plugged into the wall to stop it draining the battery flat in 2mins.
and what game NEEDS sli to play properly ? non... unless you worship your 3dwank score. If you want a lappy for business, get one for that, if you want a game rig, get a desktop.. prolly weighs less anyway.

I love it and I hope it is the first of many, but you know what? For $5,000 a pop I will stick to my trusty 17" PowerBook for now. There are a number of nice desktop systems that weigh less than 16 pounds so until the weight comes down I'll pass.

Nice job though, hope it is the first of many.

Useless. While I disagree that gaming needs to be done on a desktop as I like to play games while I travel, a gaming laptop need not weight that much or be that large. I play games on an 18-month-old IBM ThinkPad T42p (128MB FireGL) and imagine the new T60p is even better, both weigh in the 5lb rather than 15lb area and with their 14.1" screens and 1" thickness are extremely portable.

Sometimes I even travel lighter and still enjoy gaming on my 12" Apple PowerBook. Doom3 is playable with the detail cranked down, on a 4 1/2 pound 12" laptop.
