So I'm sitting in a smallish ballroom at the Sheraton Palace in downtown San Francisco listening to Bill Gates talk about the Next Big Trend in software, which Microsoft has a new buzzword for: Live.
A lot of what he's saying sounds familiar--software as service, everything is connected, blah blah blah. First demo of Live Software was XBox Live, showing new capabilities of networked XBox 360s including access to other players and stuff to buy.
Now he's talking about Windows Live and Office Live. The former, Windows Live, is not Windows. Rather, it's "Internet based personal services to bring together your digital world." But Windows Live isn't MSN.com either. It sounds basically like a new Web portal.
Office Live sounds similar, but business focused and easy to integrate with Microsoft Office (but you don't need Office to use Office Live). Some of these Live services will be free, others will be subscription-based. Gates explained that the Live platform will help Microsoft deliver a broad range of technologies to users.
"The Live era is just starting... It's a new way to look at software, a better way that creates lots of new opportunities," Gates concluded. (Ray Ozzie, Microsoft's chief technical officer, is up now--thank goodness, the paparazzi have calmed down. I'll write more later.)
Hmm, it seems that bill gates is trying to dominate other aspects of our lives. what next?
this is the dawn of the new begining - this is music to my ears!!
um so basically we have no idea what these things are, except that they have something to do with the internet, great!
Seems to me that this is just an attempt to generate attention over a product/service that only exists as some vague one-liner slogan, so that microsoft can use brand recognition strategy to market the sale of whatever this is.
you were the FIRST media to break this story - in real time - now that WIFI cameras are available you can now upload in real time
Hey, I was just getting a grasp of the definition of "dot Net". Now everything's "Live". Give it up MS, roll over and keep gettin' spanked.
Am basically happy for the inventions of bill gates.
Am also requesting for his contact so that i get to know more.
send it to my adress
Or call +256 78 615550
The alternative e-mail is culturaltroupe_sanyu@yahoo.com
If its more money Microsoft is after, might I suggest marketing your Dilithium Crystals as a method of tranference. Scotty says the world is RRRRRRRRReady to beammeup.com
Huh?
Three phrases should be among the most common in our daily usage. They are: Thank you, I am grateful and I appreciate.
Sounds like Microsoft trying to be Google. Thanks but no thanks until it's proven to be a progressive groundbreaking service.
