Thought I'd get this up fast. Jeremy Kirk of
IDG News Service reported this afternoon that Hewlett-Packard today
recalled around 135,000 lithium ion rechargeable battery packs after several melted or charred the plastic cases of laptops.
The battery is used with the HP Pavilion, Compaq Presario, HP Compaq, and Compaq Evo laptops, said Mike Hockey. The battery is made by a third-party vendor that HP would not identify.
Hockey said the company received 16 reports of batteries overheating, with four cases of damage to the laptops.
Consumers can go
here to verify if they have the battery pack in question. A new battery can be mailed in five to 10 days, and a postage-paid envelope will be provided to return the old one, Hockey said.
Hope you're not affected.
