Why I Recommend Online Backup Services

Things happen. Bad things happen. And sometimes--really, really bad things happen. Take the damage that assaulted our Gulf Coast region when Hurricanes Katrina and Rita hit. Painful to view and devastating to experience.
Take a look at these photos of hard drives that the hard drive disaster recovery experts at
Drivesavers sent us.
Here's hoping their data was recoverable. Naturally, the level of intervention it takes to get the data back in these kinds of circumstances costs a pretty penny. That's one reason I suggest using online backup services for the data you can't afford to lose.
Here's our September
review of online services and a comparative
chart.
Also, check out our entire
"Big Drive Backup" package.
Get a Yahoo small business website. A website plus 2gb of storage for $10/month. And you can access your files from anywhere. Or seal your external HD in a bag before the next hurricane.
Better than that, get an Inbox.com email account (or several). You get 2GB of space, with a built-in upload function (even GMail doesn't do that) and it's FREE! With NO ads. You can then use the $10 a month for gas!
Having a place to put it doesn't mean it gets there. With the online services, you automate the backups and they get done. Of course, if you're sure you'll get it done manually--no problem, right? Just a thought....
Another thing that works is Gmail Drive. It will let you use your Gmail account for storage, it adds another drive to My Computer and Windows Explorer.
Yeah, I do manual backups at work a lot. Then I realize that it's been a month since the last time I did one. Nice to have that automatic backup of everything that has changed every work day evening.
