Dell Announces New Computer Line-up, TVs

Posted by Narasu Rebbapragada | Wednesday, September 28, 2005 11:56 AM PT

In a press conference I just attended via Web cast, Dell announced a new Dell XPS product line, changes to the Dimension and Inspiron product lines, and two new TVs.

Dell is launching the new XPS line-up with four products: The company is billing the new XPS600 as the ultimate gaming desktop with dual-core processors and graphics, the M170 notebook as a mobile gaming platform, the Dell XPS 400 as a multimedia desktop, and the XPS 200 as a stylish small-form factor PC.

Dell also announced changes to its Inspiron and Dimension lines with basic and entertainment models in each. And in the vein of Detroit automakers' employee discounts for all, Dell says it's relying less on periodic promotional pricing. (Good for me, as I always manage to buy a PC right before the price goes down.)

The company will also offer two TVs for the holiday season: a 50-inch plasma ($3799) and a 32-inch LCD ($1799).

Michael Dell in the Q&A portion of the event said that the newly announced machines were Windows Vista ready but not much more. When asked whether new PCs will come with HD DVD writers, Dell said that it is a participant in the Blue Ray group but didn't offer much else.

Dell: Love 'em or hate 'em? Chime in here.
