Yahoo Messenger...Now, With Voice!

What about a new Mac version? We're still languishing behind the Windows version by about three years worth of upgrades. We can't even use the chat rooms without going into Java, and Safari screws up Yahoo's chat rooms so badly it's not worth trying.

Seems like I've been doing a lot of those "features" with iChat.

Downloaded it and been using it for the last couple of hours. Still can't figure out the purpose of the Livewords feature. The updated audibles are amusing though.

Will it allow developers to incorporate 3rd party plug-ins? I like to use my YIM while Winamp plays and lists the tracks or radio feed I'm listening to. A superficial, egotistical thing, I know.

I like Yahoo Messenger alot and I think that it's one of the best IM programs on the net-not to mention that is FREE!!!

This must be Yahoo's answer to Skype.

Major problem with Yahoo's new Messenger with Voice seems to be its incompatibility with the 30 million users of Yahoo version 6 and earlier. You cannot do file transfer, you cannot do voice, and other functions seem to hang up occassionaly. Is this true? Or do I still have some beta code hanging around???

I chose not to download Yahoo Extras and other features but they were downloaded anyway. On Addreess Book, you send an e-mail using your Outlook Express account (I didn't choose this option but I got it anyway). I tried to uninstall it and it was a problem. I couldn't remove Yahoo Messenger Explorer Bar from Add/Remove programs, I have to use a registry cleaner program.

you can voice chat in chatroom and conference. but you can't voice chat in im that suck becasue i voice chat with my friends in im.my friend told me that my im send a messsage that i had old messenger.but i had the new messenger and i got the same im saying he had old messenger. i think the new messenger cost money to use the call button witch i don't wanna pay for and i am trying to down load the messenger before the 7.0. is there a way to get the messenger before the 7.0 p.s haven't try all the new stuff on 7,0,0,426 messenger

Anyone with Window XP OS, Norton Internet Security (NIS) installed on their PC/Laptop having problem using Yahoo Messenger with Voice? Only when I disabled Norton Internet Security on my Laptop I could install and use yahoo messanger's new version. The moment I enable NIS and try to use messsenger nothing happens and my Laptop gets stuck, I have to restart my laptop. So currently I disable NIS when I have to use yahoo messenger. I have sent an email to yahoo, let's see what they have to say.... Can anyone shade some light on this?????????

It;s wierd that it doesn;t have refresh menu anymore, and it;s not automatic. I still see my friends on-line after an hour they had gone off-line. Am I missing anything?

i have used yahoo messenger in the past but the new version i must say is crappy the voice it messes up you get disconnected everyday i never had this much trouble with the old version they should really think about fixing these problems before releasing something like that

I wonder why are 'send file' and 'photos' disabled in my new yahoo messenger though I did not choose to. One more thing that I noticed is, though I disabled Audibles using Preferences it still shows in messenger window. Looks like new yahoo messenger is really messed up.

I still haven't got any reply from yahoo regarding problem caused because of Norton Internet Security.

I've had a similar problem as EBUser in that NIS seems to completely disrupt use of webcam and file transfer. I can receive files but I cannot send them myself.

I downloaded YIM7 last night and the strangest thing I noticed immediately was that ANYTIME I right clicked on a contact name, tried to select the Audibles and Emoticons menus or tried to access the menu under my YIM name, the program completely crashes.

The worst thing is that when I went to uninstall the whole thing to replace it with the older version, the problems have remained.

Whats up with this?

I'm betting that YM will win the batlle's IM once they are using the best strategy: nothing against MS et al, all to the user in one unique place.
The PC to PC call is clearly the future and better than the 64k phone line...and how YAHOO did it using so narrow bandwidth it is a good surprise.

I have a few problems with the new yahoo messenger. It constantly closes when I'm in a Voice Chat or Confrence. When I invite people to a Chat or Confrence it will close. When I goto one Voice Chat to another it closes on me.

This new YM with Voice just sucks. It does support firewalls. Earlier version was very good. Whenever i try to loging it says setup proxy. on going to yahoo for help they say that this is the problem with new YM and one has to wait who use internet through firewall/proxy till they find the solution

Only cool because lots of other people have it. If you want the real deal, stick with Skype. Its encrypted and it also has a free plug in called Spontania for Skype that lets you use video.

I used BETA version with voice it worked fine but I upgraded to new version the voice sucks ,I could hear clearly but the people at other end cannot hear me clearly (there is lot of disturbance).

Does any one has such problem?.

Is there any place we can report about this problems to Yahoo.

i downloaded the new yahoo im beta, i am disappointed, half the time it will not let me even get into it. and i am crashing alot. it is freakin out daily....

I have downloaded YIM 7.0 and am having the same problem as many others. When I go and right click on screen names or emoticons or anything for that matter, the program closes. Any ideas where the problem stems from? I am using Win XP Prof. with service pack 2...

I have the new YIM 7.0, and each time I attempt to connect or IM with somone, my antivirus program, Norton 2005, warns me about a potential worm. I have made sure Norton is set to permit access to YIM, but each time I try to connect to messenger, it uses a different port. So that means I have to authorize access every time I try to use this thing. Anyone know of a work around??

New beta 7.0 is a messenger with revolutinary changes, but lots of annoying nuisanses. Main problem is that not compatible in voice with any other previous messengers. Love the instant voice, the drag in file and phot sharing, the highlighted phone numbers and email addys...but hate that you not able to send messages with any or your aliases only with your main account name, righclick wont bring up profiles, there is no way to refresh yahoo...etc...etc...Needs a lot of adjustment..but then it will be a superb version..............crossing my fingers

The New Yahoo Messenger with voice refuses to open...Every time I shut it down and come back later, it will not open! I have to re-boot each time I want to use it, or else just give up on it! Is there any way to fix this? The other versions (including Beta) worked.

In the older version of Yahoo messenger I had no difficuty in chatting with my daughter, who is in a different country in Gulf. Both of us have downloaded the newer version 7.0. but we cannot voice chat now. While I can hear her voice, she cannot hear mine. Speakers and microphone are ok on both ends. I am based in india. What do i need to do to speak to her in Dubai

I wish I had never upgraded to the newer 7.0 version. I am having the same problems as all of you. Mine refuses to open -- then when it does open, it freezes up. I fixed the problem with crashing everytime when I do right click by installing YIM UK version :) everything`s ok with this version :)

oh .. and if you still want to use your old YIM 6.0 or earlier you must make system restore otherwise you`ll have the same problem with the olderones :)

Frankly yahoo fugged up on this one. It is full of crashes and bad code. I will not be using it now and that's a shame because it was a good program. Also you will find yahoo's responses for email help are almost nil, that is a company full of glitz but very short on actual customer satisfaction.

(Reference: Please read my previous posts) I received reply from yahoo saying that they fixed problems I specified and asked me to download and install updated file of newer yahoo messenger, which I did y'day. I just downloaded the new version....and it insisted on turning voice on everytime i change rooms.... how to get it to "remember" i want voice turned OFF

ABSOLUTE RUBBISH!

The volume controls are absent.

The threshold below which the mic does not activate is absent. The mic is on all the time, and the new clarity picks up all background noise - invariably the PC whirring away.

Voice now distorts when it gets too loud - of course, you can't adjust the volume control to prevent it!

The "hands free" button has been replaced by "hold" - you now have to stop hearing your friend to turn off the mic.

The timer is annoying!!

You can't have more than 1 call without one being on hold.

This version is INCOMPATIBLE with older versions - no voice chat compatibility!

Debra if you use windows xp go to start then click all programs then accessories then system tools then system restore. Once restore starts click on "restore my computer to an earlier time" then choose a restore date BEFORE you installed the new yahoo then click OK. Let it restore and your old yahoo and settings should be back.

It keeps crashing on me, freezing up. Sometimes I can't view profiles beacuse Internet Explorer won't always work with it. If you want to make a phome call, it says you need to buy a Yahoo phone card.

Yes, not only did they hijack my browser with their search and not found search results, they've killed my microphone, doesn't work with Skype no either. Hey Yahoo.... did you test any of this or just throw it out, users be damned, to compete with Google Talk?

This new version sucks! I use XP and everytime I load YM my computer freezes! With all these comments here I'll stick wtih YM6. Luckily I was able to restore my system and is now using YM6 - with no problems at all.

There used to be access to Chat/chatrooms in earlier versions of Messenger. I am now trying to find how to download an earlier version with this facility.

I found the solution to crashing of Yahoo Messenger........... This is due to skinning programs such as Windows Blinds.............

If you have Window Blinds, you can solve the problem by following steps.....

Bring up the Window Blinds window and click on per application settings

Then "Add new Per app settings" and select Ypager.exe and then in the new window that appears, select the first option "Ignore this app....." Thats it........ Do the same with Ymsgrtray.exe too.................

it is impossible to use this program without a crash in your PC. I want to use it but windows has to shut down the program in unexpected moments, and u have to restart the PC to use it. It really sucks. I hope they fix it. Where can i find previous working versions?

Every time I try to accept voice on the new yahoo messenger with voice, it freezes my computer up and I have to reboot. Not all the options work on the new messenger, such as send file, games, photos. I want to go back to the previous version, this new version has alot of bugs in it.

The new Yahoo messenger has so many flaws and bugs in it that it isnt worth downloading. I would advise any one out there stick with the old version unless you want more troble from your comp than the toys the new version has is worth.

What needs to be done with this Yahoo Voice, is to be taken off, and never have been thought of, most of these people on here, (like myself) want the old one back, its alot easier to use, you have so many problems with this new one, so what needs to be done is that the new Yahoo voice needs to be whipped out from our computers....

Y! crashes on startup. I'm not running WindowBlinds, but I am running a patched uxtheme.dll which enables skinning. Any tips for skinning without WindowBlinds? I am perfectly content with keeping 7.0 uninstalled until 7.1 is released (or until the bugs are fixed). At any rate, whoever said I wanted Yahoo's skin? What if I want Y! to look like my OS's skin?!

If you want to find an older version of Yahoo Messenger...go to oldversion.com They have verions 3 thru 5 . Not sure where to get V7 though.. I have version 7 and it seems to work ok other than I can't use any IMvironments (get a general loading error) and I don't have a lot of the new audibles. Hope everyone get their problems solved. :)

I used YIM to play online pool, but once I downloaded the new version I cannot see my entire screen so I can't even play the game anymore. I can't find out how to get my old messenger back and I want it. I strongly dislike the new version.

Well, my poor computer is fixed, finally. I had to do a system restore. Nothing else worked. I was having the click-on-most-anything-and-crash problem. I had tried completely uninstalling 7.0, including manually deleting leftover files, and reinstalling 6.0, then again trying to reinstall the UK version of 7.0, and both times the problem remained.

I really recommend - quit messing with it and just do a system restore ASAP.

Not sure if anyone else noticed having a problem with their archived messages using the new Yahoo IM w/Voice. Since I did the upgrade from version 6, all of my previous archived messages I had using ver 6 are corrupted and incomplete and not readable with this extremely buggy version w/Voice. Fonts are messed up and just incomplete sentence fragments are showing up! Anyone having same problem or know how to fix this?? I've tried several e-mails for help to Yahoo and they just say "un-install, re-install, make sure u copy ur message archive to another place first".....that sorta stuff (which didn't work anyway!) Seems that the message archives of both versions are somehow incompatable with each other and they don't want to admit it. Because if u go back to old ver 6 successfully they all magically re-appear normally...except for the conversations that u just had using the NEW ver w/Voice!! Now those will be corrupted! This is a bad bug if u r one to make use of archives.

I am having some of the similar problems about installing the newest version of Yahoo instant messenger. I went to download version 6 but the download is now getting stuck on 23 percent download marker. I just send Yahoo Customer Care an email and waiting for a response. I tried to upload the new version of Yahoo IM and it said it was succesful but everytime i try to open it to use it it pops up a message and says "run time error" and wont let me even use it at all. How do I fix this or get my old messenger back. I have a cable connection so that should not be a problem.

Yea, you are correct, I also hate new version Yahoo, it has virus and create problems to my pc, it include orans.sys virus, I also like old version because OLD is GOLD.

* Disconnects and reconnects randomly

* Eats memory like nobody's business. I can bring up Task Manager and watch it leak in 4MB increments every few seconds. Right now it's idle and taking up 35MB of real memory, for no obvious reason, on XP Pro; the same program installed using XP Home takes 9MB, which still seems like a lot to me.

* Does weird things after a chat window stays on "attention" too long: it pastes a buggy view of the contact list in the upper-left corner of my main monitor (I usually keep the client on the second monitor), and starts dropping bits of the chrome. I also get a window hole where the menu bar should be.

So far, I'm not happy with this version, and I can't find out where to tell them about the bugs.

I downloaded the new version of yahoo messenger, what a joke..now i cannot remove or uninstall it ? just quits in the middle ? why is yahoo not responding?? My yahoo messenger shows that I am offline when infact I am not and I am unable to signin on yahoo messenger.

well just a quick word from me if you want the new 7.0 messenger i would advise not to upgrade just yet , there are too many problems with this version at the moment if you are going to upgrade make sure you have the 6.0 version set up file installed so if you dont like it delete all the 7.0 files and folders and re - install 6.0 .I think yahoo have rushed this out without a full trial - so my advice dont get it - happy chatting

I just had the new 7.0 messenger installed and while chatting with my best friend she told me about the photo share. I thought this was a great idea and was so ready to share since we haven't seen eachother in many years. When she sent me her photo it was completely blurry on my end and vice versa for her. I sent in a complaint but Yahoo wants for me to be more specific. How much more can I say. Its not working.

I have 4 computers, with the latest YM with voice. when i PC to PC call someone or voice chat, they sound squeaky, like they are talking on helium, or sound like mickey mouse. I have talked to people in my own Town on ADSL, and other countries. Its the same problem. I have the proper Truespeech Audio codecs installed, and checked for other problems, my old version of yahoo chat worked perfect with people from all over the world. i have not installed any new programs or changed anything. all my computers are 2GHZ and with windows XP or 2000, If any one knows a fix for this please email me.

One thing I have found is that you must be sure that Yahoo messenger is listed in your "exceptions" on your firewall preferences.

And a comment from the person saying that they thought there was a charge to click on the "call" button on mesenger......nope--no charges....not even internationally. I talk to russia all of the time.

I forgot something else that may be useful to some of you. In order for all of the features on "yahoo messenger with voice' to work properly...you must completely uninstall your previous version from the "add and remove programs" list. That includes the yahoo toolbar...and all other yahoo programs that are listed there. Don't worry about losing your old contact list, it is stored at yahoo...not on your hard drive. so when you install the new version, they will automatically be added. I did a lot of troubleshooting with yahoo when the first issue of yahoo 7.0 went out --- with all of it's glitches---then I ran the beta and gave them feedback there....finally they came out with the refined version or the beta---which is the yahoo messenger with voice. Most of the problems I have read about here----can be solved with firewall settings and a full uninstall.

hi , how do i download yahoo messenger 6.0. i hate the newer version with voice. Its not clear. the voice breaks when we talk. the older version was far better than the newer version. This type of call and talk never works. i just want to know if there's anyway i can download the older version

Using the new version (w/voice). Can not get it to 'show my pic'. Can do 'share avastar' but not pictures. Keeps resetting to 'don't show'. Yahoo's answer - reinstall. Gee, wonder why I didn't think of that... PS it didn't work...

Yahoo w/Voice does not un-install. Yahoo created a hidden path in our computers when we installed this unremovable version.

Messenger 7 keeps logging out and back in intermittantly or when trying to send files making this new verions useless to me.

I have the same problem with the new Yahoo 7.0, so i went back to the old version 6.0, it work fine. Now the problem that me and mostly everyone who go to a chat room is some kind of freeze voice. When is Yahoo going to patch this booter that keep freezing everyone whose goes to a chat room.

I realise that Yahoo messenger archives all my messages on my machine but it does so in an encoded way. I need to recover these messages as text to paste into readable files (preferably whilst I am off-line). I have in the past highlighted offline messages from others, copied them to the Windows clipboard and then saved them as simple text files before they get auotomatically deleted from my screen.

Version 7 0f Yahoo messenger still allows me to read any offline messages but no longer allows me to save them, either by using the 'save' feature or by highlighting, doing a 'copy' to clipboard and then do a 'paste' to a text file. I cannot recover my archived messages into ordinary text files, neither by 'save' nor 'copy and paste'. Any ideas?

I found the solution to crashing of Yahoo Messenger........... This is due to skinning programs such as Windows Blinds.............

If you have Window Blinds, you can solve the problem by following steps.....

Bring up the Window Blinds window and click on per application settings

Then "Add new Per app settings" and select Ypager.exe and then in the new window that appears, select the first option "Ignore this app....." Thats it........ Do the same with Ymsgrtray.exe too.

This actually worked. However I couldn't figure out exactly how to do it application by application, so I just turned it off. It sucks, I liked my skins, but I'd rather turn them off until they get something fixed versus my messenger crashing ALL the time. I suggest everyone try that. Thanks _khAttAm_!

I'm having problem everytime i tried to go in to chat room. after i press the ENTER then in a few seconds i get a message error "The request of signing into chat took longer than expected. Go to Control Panel/Add or Remove Program and you can uninstall it

I run windows NT 4.0... Ive installed Yahoo msngr w voice.. but the pc to pc calling button is not highlighted and I dont have the calling options? anyone know why?? HI, I never had the older version and I like the newer version. My friends and I love the audibles, but we get tired of the same audibles we would like to download more audibles. Is there anyway to get other audibles We've used up all of them back and forth. We would love to use more of them!

I have tried the new version went back to the old with no problems, but got tired of not being able to send files to friends etc and went back to the new version. I also use Ytunnel374 and it doesn't support no proxies with firewall and thats the only way i can sign in. i have opened all the specific ports in nis05 and my router with no luck.. any ideas?
