I was looking at the PS3 Cell Prosesor Specs and reading claims that "your information will be run on diferent Cell computers or PS3's all around the world. This is suposed to increase processing speed." Yeah right. What happens when you or sombody else has a slow internet connection? Then your data running in Norway (example used by explanation of Cell processor) will take forever to come back to you.

By spring 2006 i would assume most people will be on a broadband connection. Anybody hear a price for the PS3? Or Xbox 360? (i would assume they will be priced near eachother)

Sony's "always online" capabilities (where they share processing power) is only available with a broadband connection.

It also offers full HDTV support for two tv's. So yes, it will run on a plasma. Games will be optimised for 1080 progressive scan, one of the highest formats of HDTV available. Xbox 360 is optimised for its highest output of 720 progressive scan.

Yes the playstation 3 comes with Blue ray, but how do we know that will be the dominate data type for HD movies. They are going to be competing with another disc format and its to early for Sony to tell whether or not it will be the top format. Its a shaky move by sony.

to clear up a few things about the cell chip. Its not that it does its processing over the internet, or shared processing. The cell chip works by simulating mulitple processors, all within itself, allowing enourmous emounts of computational power, just like multi-processor super computers.

about that ff7 trailer that was mentioned: thats for a movie, not a game. its called ff7: advent children. Its a sequel to the ff7 for ps1, but its noninteractive.

microsoft will have a huge adavantage coming out 3-6 months earier than ps3. they could charge a huge price on the 360, because people will want the next gen system, then they will release halo 3 when the ps3 launches and lower the price to that or lower of the ps3 launch price, i think i lost myself there

How do we know if blue ray will dominate the format wars? Simple - Just look to whose backing them. Pretty much everybody except Toshiba and NEC. I looked into a Sony Magazine and the Chip alone is pretty much the whole price in there. Those cells took alot of sony's time the pricing of the system should be estimated around 350+ dollars. The chip alone is close to 400 dollars according to sony.

As long as they make the ps3's readers to last! That was the Achilles heal of both the X-Box and the PS2. Sony will outlast the 360 and people will wait to buy the PS3...as long as it's worth waiting for. The gameplay is what will make people buy the system, not all the garbage that the x-box 360 is bragging about. One question: Will we need to buy a seperate memory card, or is all the memory needed built in?

I agree, the control pad looks rediculous. But I will hold my overall judgement. What it comes down to is, is it comfortable. We all know the PS1/2 pad was a little on the small side and the Xbox pad was, like the machine, enormous. Let's wait to see if this one is the happy medium. what i find most curious about microsofts bla , bla and bla about the 360 is. Will it play combat flight sim 3 ? will you be able to use the thrustmaster controller ? Or what if any existing computer games will be able to played on it? Also will it have a gigabit controller to optimize the cable connection? Any word out there?

EB Games have pre orders for x-box 360. Right now in their computers it lists a sale price for $500. They think it may go down to $450. Whats the point of paying the massive amount of money to drive a sports car when your forced to drive no faster then the average minivan?

Unless there are games out there that will use all those little extra features and all the processing power, why spend the extra money?

An optional hard drive was offered for the PS2 and very few games took advantage of it. So unless sony can get game developers to use the extra little features, we'll be paying the extra moeny for somthing we'll never get to use.

However, if sony does get the support it needs from game developers the PS3 games could attain a new level of play that none of the other systems could hope to match.

Right now its a wait and see game. I don't buy inital release systems because they are plaged with bugs and the prices are too high.

imho, blu-ray will win, simply because even if a format war starts, blu-ray players will already be in millions of homes, courtesy of the PS3...is xbox360 running HD-DVD? I think not. Basically, whoever can get it out faster, in this case sony, who already has blu-ray out in the public domain, albeit a fairly primitive version, will dominate. And seeing as how Blu-ray is the clearly superior format (keep in mind that there is no such thing as a disc that hold too much data), there should really be no contest.

I doubt the controllers could be too horrible... Sony has time to fix them if they are. Personally, I am going to wait for the PS3.

People bragging about how good the 360 is are hypocrites. The Microsoft press conference had absolutely nothing, but a bunch of talk and pretty trailers. Even though the PS3 is coming out later then the 360 the SONY press conference showed real live time demos of what to expect for the next gen console. While the only thing Microsoft had was talk about reaching a billion people and how good there console was with just pretty trailers and no realtime demonstration of its features, is there some major problem with the Xbox 360 that they can't show real live demos! Who wants a console that will become obsolete within 3 to 6 months of its release, when SONY will redefine for ever what true high definition gaming is about and blow the Xbox 360 out of the water.

Same deal, XBox 360 will come out, everyone will say ooooooh but hold off on buying the system, saying they want to see PS3 before making their decision... PS3 will come out with a stronger game lineup (does anyone remember XBox launch?? It BLEW!), 14 times the processing power, backwards compatibility, more features, and Blu-Ray... and you think the 360 will still win the battle? I think not.

I hate to say it, but as we saw from the PS2 launch (sold out everywhere at 449.99 CAD) people will pay whatever the market charges for the game system that everyone "must have". The 3DO didnt sell because it sucked, so dont bring that up.

Take it from someone who has been in the gaming business for a long time and sold THOUSANDS of consoles, at all types of prices, from launch pricing to clearance pricing. Our economy is booming, people will spend whatever is necessary to feed their gaming itch. Sad but true.

I think that I will buy the PS3, but only a month or so after the launch. I want to see some real comparison betweeen the two consoles and not just talk by either company Initialy there were problems with both of the launches of the PS2 and Xbox, so hopefully they won't have any problems then.

I don't own neither of the current consoles so I'm not one of those fanboys. Today a PC can deliver the best gamig experience. We will have to see what the future holds for gaming.

Right now they are calling it a "demo" to show off the power of the PS3, yet I see it as something else. A cover up! I've heard from sources that FF7 will be RE-RELEASED on PS3. WOW! Any fan of FF7 will appreciate that...and it makes sense...thats the OPENING SCENE of the game...why else would they bother to remake it...??? You answer that one. And ill keep waiting for a confirmation of the FF7 PS3 game...

contiunued - the 360 also has a unified shader engine and 10mb of embedded ram on the graphics processor - OK the PS3 may have a 50 gig blue ray disc - but just how long would it take a games developer to write a game to fill it- dont forget this is primarily meant to be a games console - also is it going to have a hard drive or do we still have to have memory cards!!

Memory cards are WAY more useful than a hard drive for two reasons:

1. You can back up memory card data on a second one or on a computer. If your HDD dies, you're pretty much screwed.

2. I don't want to carry no ****ing HDD over to my friend's house when a memory card would fit in my pocket. (Assuming it's removable - no way in hell I'm carrying the whole damn console)

And about the controler, if sony is smart (which we know they are), they'll make the controller at least somewhat b/w compatable - PS1 controllers worked with some PS2 games, and obviously could be used for origional PS games.

I think this time around Xbox is going to be a waste of 500 bucks you could have used to buy a ps3.Bottom line is the ps3 is more powerful and will probably be easier for game developers to work with. Not to mention the sony already has a bigger library of developers to work with. Three things-
first the PS3 and the XBox speeds are not that far apart 1.3 taraflops (XBox) vs 1.9 taraflops (PS3)

second when you are dealing with that high speeds no human will ever notice the difference between the systems

third when you double the procceessing speed it only yeilds a net gain of 15%-25% faster in real life.

So this war will not be decided by proccessing speed but by the quality of the games

the poor ps3 can use dvds or b-discs, blu-rays, that can hold the minimum of 27 gigas and only a maximum capacity of 54 gigas. i mean with so little memory in the disc what graphics and detailed worlds can they hold.

Is it just me or does Sony usually have the best game line-up to back their systems. Recently I was in a dilemma because I couldn't decide if I wanted a DS or a PSP. Nobody said anything up the game line-ups so I bought a DS. PSP still has a larger game line-up (Games only so that does not include PSP's movies) than the DS. So my question: Which first the PS3 or the XBOX 360? The Nintendo Revolution or Game boy Micro doesn't really stand a chance. I know from expierence that the Xbox has better graphics but the PS2 had a better online network set up. I know this since I own a PS2, Gamecube, and XBOX. Really which should I buy first: The Xbox 360 or the PS3?

There is support for 7 controlers, bexause while 6 people are playing 1 controller can be recharged via USB connection, or you could have all six controlers chargeing while haveing a 1 player game on the 7th controler.

54Gig or was it 56 someone menyioned? isnt the maximum capacity of a blu-ray disk compatible with PS3, there's actualy a prototype been made by TDK which holds 100gig, plus the blu-ray consortium have successfully demonstrated in lab conditions and 8 layer 200gig blu-ray disk. (obviously TDK's 100gig disk is a 4 layer disk).

I also hate the controler, but I'm sure it will go through some more design changes before release.

An interview was done with Ken kutiragi, in the intervies, ken said there would be 2 HD's available, an 80gig and a 120gig sold seperately, which will be pre-installed with Linux operating system, he also said that even these sized drives would be too small. The way kutiragi is heading is actualy for consumers to store there info online, with terrabytes of free space, an online drive, but to use the PS3 as an operating system you will need a HD.

X360 will just be a waste of money especialy if you play PC games aswell as console, x360 will have all the same games as PC and visa versa.

PS3 is the true next gen system, Xbox had 18months over PS2 and was hardly leaps and bounds in front when you saw the games on screen, Xbox will most defenetly not have that advantake next gen PS3 will be nearly 2 yrs in front and you will see the difference.

XBOX Review:
xbox is going have a larger hard drive (20gb) then before. it will have 4 contralors like before but they will be wireless. not shore if that will work out or not. xbox will be able to play alot more CD formats then PS3 xbox will have 2 USB ports along with the other ports nothing more. it will higher def and memery.

PS3 Review:
ps3 will have alot more port then the xbox
6 USB 2.0 ports, SPDIF audio, two HDMI ports, and memory card slots (for Memory Stick, SD, and CompactFlash media).
it will also have higher def and memery. the 7 contrallors is a bit much witch meens the tv screen will get divided up more witch make harder to see but i do understand that the ps3 will be able to soport two screens at a time. im not if the ps3 will have a hard drive or not.

Hey guys I am buying xbox and ps3 when they first come out the first day so and for halo 3 it will come out when the ps3 but i will buy halo 3 and ps3 so i am not a sucker!

If you are under 10 years old the nintendo series appeals to you for it has childish mario crap games. Xbox is for the older generation. PS2 is for everyone and it is therefore the best. Xbox 360 is no different from the original, microsoft is dumb for bringing it out so early. PS3 is the grand poobah of all video game systems and systems to come.....blam!!!!

Ok, I have read this entire page, and I advise others to do the same BEFORE posting. I counted about 6 of "whats the price of this?" and "whats the price of that?" Also I am a nintendo fan boy, but don't start booing at me yet, the new sony home entertainment system, (lets face it, they are never going to make a pure game system, same for x-box), looks frickin sweet also it looks like a fax machine. I also think that x-box is jumping the gun a little early, look what happend to the ps2 when it was released, the systems where thrown together so quickly that they just up and broke after a few months of use. Then the x-box came out. Dominated the market. And they too fell apart because of cheap production. The gamecube, (not game-cube or game cube as some of you rivel fanboys called it) was built as a long lasting system. Mine was dropped on the concrete when I was moving last few months ago and still works without flaw. My friend's ps2 (which was given to me after the following incident and then I promptly made a new case for out of a cornpops cerel box) fell out of his window. The first story window mind you. ON GRASS. Needless to say, the case shattered to a million pieces. I told this story to back up my theory that microsoft is jumping the gun. With the need to meet such a close deadline, they might resort to using fast and cheap production. I hope not. All the new systems will be awe inspiring. As for the new FF7 "game" that was displayed, it is NOT the opening trailer for a "game" as one of you stated. It is in fact Advent Children. I know this because I have seen every trailer to date, and the video that sony showed matched the video of the trailers. Also, I am looking forward to the launch of the revolution. This is why. Nintendo has always been about the quality of games and for the fans, not for making a quick buck. Sony has been for pretty graphics, (done very well I might add) but not gameplay and aim more for violence. Microsoft has been about shooting things, thats it. Also, the x-box 360 never at E3. Even tho there was demos, the demos where run on multi.(2 for every demo), belive it or not, G5s.And for god sakes, I hope that sony did not lie about KILLZONE being prerendered. Alas, I am nearing the end of my comment. I will wait for the revolution. Playing all those retro games, and next gen games on one system just seems amazing. Sure the revolution is not going to measure up to the power of the ps3 or the x-box 360, but as said earlier, nintendo focuses on gameplay, longevity, and thier consumers. As for the nintendo ds vs. the sony psp, I have to go with the ds. I've played the psp and I was amazed. Its graphics and beauty were not a force to be reconed with. But there is the long list of the defects for the psp. Press up and the x button at the same time and you have a large chance of the umd to shoot out and go thru someone brain. And the dead pixels, yes the larger the screen the more of a chance to get them, but when someone has to back to bestbuy THREE FREAKIN TIMES just to get a psp without defects, that calles for a little bit of complaning. Oh and a little tidbit of knowlege, it takes 21 min. to make a psp, 21! And because this comment is long enough, I'm not going to go in depth about the square button being misaligned, or the fact that the left trigger button is built different then the right one. (it is just missing a few pieces of plastic) Oh, and screw the gameboy micro int the a**, come on nintendo, we dont need another sp varient! There's just no need for it! The first and foremost is that i do not have any predjudice when it comes to judging systems. I dont care which will do better so i will give an unbiased judgement.

First off is techinical speed/graphics specs. :
How good graphics do we really need? I understand that some people wish to have better graphics, but honestly do we really need so much better than twice what the current x box has? i dont think so. Nintendo is LACKING here.

Disc wars. 8 gig is definitly not enough to hold the kind of graphics x box 360 is promoting. Blu ray seems poised to win the "ngen" war, also Xenosaga: episode one in its uncut version measured 21.6 gigs . The developers had alot to cut out and compress.
Nintendo not a factor. Xbox blunders a bit here

Hard drive support: Xbox will win slightly here, unless sony makes some kind of switchout in which they add hard drive support.

The psp factor: Sony has a trick up its sleeve, the psp factor. Sony will be using the psp as a virtual controller, using its storage as a memory card for games, and even as a video and entertainment hub for viewing umds Xbox is underestimating the psp

Price: Ugh nintendo rapes here, there cheap barebones system is coming in at around 200 dollars compared to 500 and 550 +

Online: Sony will be a bit smarter here, they ARE preparing for a centralized system. Its probable they will charge money for its use. Xbox has a clear advantage at the moment. Its one of xbox's strongpoints. clear winner :x box

Controller issue : Holy sh*t, whats that boomerang, well thoes were my thoughts at first. I hope they cahnge it or add bearings to make it turn sensitive. Secondly nintendo recently made a buisness alliance with a gyroscope company, which in my mind can only be used to actually turn controllers . Nicely done nintendo, innovation from the rear.

In the end: GAMES ARE WHAT MATTERS, this is what X box cannot understand. It is the games that matters, they stand puzzled having but a few seriers .
They have also made a blunderous move by not making all xbox1 games reverse compatable. On the other end sony has first rate games, both squareenix and rockstar will be developing for the ps3 primeraly. Ps3 will also have a library of roughly 3 thousand games at launch, because of its ps2/1 reverse compatability. Nintendo will also allow downloads of previous generation games.

My decision: You cant compare three thousand battle tested games to anything, farewell x box

First off the playstation 3 sounds fantastic! The cell processor, although not yet released in any other consumer products, sounds incredible and powerful. I am very excited about the HD gaming capabilities of both the PS3 and the XBox 360. I just had a question about HDMI (the only HD out port on the PS3) - if anyone out there might me able answer it. Since the PS3 has HD capabilites it is only fitting that it have the latest HD video and audio connection available (HDMI), as well as the standard AV multi out (although this connect will not be able to handle or deliver HD quality by any means). However as I stated above HDMI is the newest HD connection available, but my 2002 Toshiba rear projection HDTV only has Component video input for an HD picture (besides HDMI it does not have a DVI input either). I have been unable to find a converter for HDMI to Component video anywhere and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on this. It would really suck to spend $400 on a platform supporting HD games and not be able to view HD on by HDTV not yet four years old. matthewrepublican@yahoo.com

After spending a considerable amount of time reading this entire blog (while waiting for the girlfriend) I have arrived at the following conclusion:

Xbox 360 - While the two systems have great things going for them, Xbox 360 is quite reminicient of the Sega Dreamcast (this I should know something about having once owned a Dreamcast). Sorry to break the hearts of all you Xbox fanboys and girls out there but the only thing Xbox 360 has going for it is Halo which would be great and all except that Halo has been the only thing the original Xbox had going for it. Everything else we've heard before. Microsoft has no suprises because it is a company short on ideas. The DVD media for the Xbox 360 is just too short considering a certain Xbox 360 RPG already has half the disc filled with voice acting alone. Mind you, this is the first batch of Xbox 360 games! A shame. And if you ask me, I really don't like the look of Xbox 360. It looks like a kid's toy (once again reminicient of Dreamcast). The original Xbox had a lousy library of games, which is what prompted me to purchase a PlayStation 2 in the first place. But maybe Microsoft will wise up to the market.

PlayStation 3 - Sounds like I need one. The controller (like many of you) doesn't amuse me.
Being able to use 7 of those controllers doesn't amuse me either. But the system specs certainly do. You will see a great line-up of games just as you did on PS2 and more exclusives due to the better system specs and media. Admittedly, PS2 was a rushed system so therefore I am not completely sure we can compare its launch to that of the PS3 (gotta get rid of those jaggies). However, this time around Sony has a lot more time to pioneer on the PS3 and really get a feel for what the system can/can't do. And as for overall sales, how many times has Sony lapped Microsoft? Look it up, kids. PS3 is going to excite.

I think the new systems are going to be great. But im defenitely buying the PS3!

Ummm... Anyone who thinks that developers have to try and fill all 50 GB of space on the Blu-Ray disc is an idiot...

Developers don't have to fill up all the space you completely ignorant person. They could use one megabyte of it and release it ffs. Besides, these days developers are actually trying to cram their games into the current 4.7 GB DVDs and have had to compress textures etc. making the game ugly and buggy.

50GB will give developers more freedom in creating their games. Think about it this way, a high resolution bitmap which can be used as a texture would be about 5-15MB. and considering games have thousands of textures, the blu-ray makes the possibilities endless

will ps3 be compatible VHS and cassette tape? I think it would also be cool if you could fry eggs on it. That would really make it the console to buy! I mean look at the specs:

I think initially the x box 360 and playstation 3 will be so alike in the quality of graphics people wont be able to tell the systems apart. It will take possibly years b4 the full potential of the ps3 superior system will be utilized. So whoever side of the gaming war u are on (x box or ps) your both going to be winners, and the war will be won by the games, not on the system its released on. Which puts pressure on the game developers to live up to the new systems.

i don't own a ps2 or an exbox, however if i was going to buy a ps3 or and xbox360, i would buy the ps3 just because it isn't own by the power hungry, sneaky software company that will stop at nothing untill they coner every maket in the world. I think that this is another case of rush-to-market.

There are lots of people out there trying to be the first to have a system that will play up to the 1080p standard, but seeing how it is not even AVAILABLE yet in a monitor, I think people are jumping the gun.

Things like a HD larger than the disks you are putting in them would be nice so you can download more things to help with the game after release.

Also, the compatibility with SD and CF is also nice. I am tired of having to pay $25 for an 8 meg sony card when you can get a 256 meg flash for the same (or for free if you keep your eyes open!!!)

The key thing here is GAMES. Sony ruled the last battle because of games and availability, but I noticed a lot of guys in the older set went for the X-Box for the same reason.

Also, I agree on appearance. When a console is more than $100 it is no longer a kids toy. It would be nice if these things looked at-home in an entertainment system rather than a clunky box that needs to be on top.

Bottom line is, games. Whoever has, and releases the best games first, will get a commanding market share.

Who effing cares, premade comps are total shite, no matter what brand they are, pentium is gay too. first of all, now matter what the specs of any of the three systems are, it still doesn't equate to the actual gaming experience. No matter how powerful a machine is, programmers still need to make games to that systems potential, take the aging ps2 for example, programmers still havent made games to the systems full potential. Games still only use one of the two systems vectoring chips. If people can't program for a sytem then it's useless. each system has it's strengths and weaknesses. Its up to the developers of these games to bank on the strengths and fortify the weaknesses of the machine, so specs don't really have that much of an impact on the actual games these people are developing for this next generation of systems. now fanboys and n00bs, get out of your parents basements and get some daylight.

HEY HEY HEY, I have somthing to say. HALO 3 has been delayed till 2007 because microsoft wanted it to launch the same time as the halo movie

Now, i'm not really on ether side right now. I prefer my PS2 over my Xbox but i'm considering getting an Xbox 360 and buy all the multi-platform games I like for the Xbox 360 (eventually i'll get the PS3). I think the X360 is clearally the better machine by the technology.
I've looked at the technical specs and a couple things the PS3 is more advanced on (the things you all keep on talking about) but most of the things the X360 is better. X360 has twice the Video memory, three proccesser cores (PS3 has just one) and supports much more types of CD and DVD formats. The PS3 does have 7 controller plug-ins, but just imagine how much money it would take to fill up all of those plug-ins, it would cost about as much as the system itself! The hard drive also makes the X360 better. Bottom line: Microsoft is a bigger and more trusted company with ATI and IBM on thair side (custom ATI graphics processer and IBM processer) and you get more bang for your buck.

Well i dont know if you are on crack or what but i just picked up an issue of ELECTRONIC GAMING and sony said that those specifications were only the starting point, its gpu is going to be bumped op to 620mhz and 512mb of video memory and 32 pixal pipeline, and the avlibilty of hooking to 2 HD tvs for super widescreen and even though it wont have an hard drive with it, it will have a optional hard drive with 120gb of space that u can just buy, and ps3 supports way more formates like blue ray dvds and they said that the 360 and reviloution are toys and the PS3 is a supercomputer

Okay, WTF are these blue-ray disks? Are they supposed to be better graphically just because the name sounds cool. I mean seriously, you all keep talking about it like its better when it may just make the loading times faster and that doesen't matter unless your REALLY impatent to the point where you need to see the doctor. It sounds like a UMD but designed for the PS3 and UMD's are basically a smaller DVD.

Unlike everyone of you, i'm not predicting that the PS3 is better or just saying it's better just because the PS2 is better (I admit the PS2 is better I play it all the time) I am going to buy one of the two based on which one itself is a better machine - not because the last console (which one you think) is better.

Ok, blue-ray disks are way better here are some better things: 11 times the capacity of a dvd, which alows games to have better graphics and more features and it reads data alot faster too. So there you have it. And to Emily the ps3 will be 3 time more powerful then the xbox360 and 6 times more powerful then the Nintendo Reviloution, PS. Nintendo's new controller is gay!!!!

RSX will be the most sophisticated graphics processor ever built, representing 1500 person-years of investment. When combined with Cell, it will provide an astounding two teraflops of floating point horsepower. A measure of the extraordinary processing power of RSX compared to current-generation game consoles is the numbers of transistors it will contain: 300 million. This is more than the total number of transistors in both the central processing units and the graphics processing units of the three leading current-generation systems, combined.

RSX will be manufactured at Sony Group?s Nagasaki Fab2 as well as OTSS (joint fabrication facility of Toshiba and Sony).

Anticipation for the PS3 is exceptionally high amongst consumers, particularly in Sony's native Japan. A recent survey which questioned 500 male and 500 female console owners in Japan found that an overwhelming 72.3 percent said they would be buying the PS3.

Microsoft, who has struggled to secure a foothold in the Japanese market with the Xbox, is keen to do things differently in Japan with the Xbox 360 this time around. According to the survey however, only 5.8 percent said they were interested in the new Xbox console, compared to 29.1 percent who showed interest in buying the new Nintendo Revolution.

It wasn't quite the detail many attendees of ISSCC had hoped for, but IBM, Sony and Toshiba revealed enough information about their much-hyped Cell processor to spur discussion and speculation of the impact of the chip when it hits the market.

The prototype shown at the conference is based on Power architecture, integrates nine cores and runs at "more than 4 GHz".

The basic structure of the chip is comprised out of one 64-bit PowerPC chip and eight "synergistic processing units" (SPEs), the firms said. The PowerPC processor will integrate 32 kByte L1 and 512 kByte L2 cache, while the SPEs will use 256 KByte cache.

The "operating system neutral" chip is manufactured in 90 nm SOI, has a 221 mm2 footprint and integrates 234 million transistors. This compares to about 125 million transistors of the current Pentium 4 processor, which measures 122 mm2.

Sony has just confirmed cell consits of 9 cores compared to 7 in the xbox 360 cpu and 4.0ghz compared to 360 cpu's 3.2ghz. THE PS3 IS GOING TO BE WAY MORE POWERFUL!!!!!!!

Oh another thing I baught both PS2 and XBOX they both have problems. Yes PS2 has disk read error and XBOX does have disk read error too. The truth is the only console that didn't have problem was GAMECUBE soo I don't know you guys....It's tough. Well...I guess PS3 is good in so many ways just the only scary part is would there be another DISK READ ERROR?

Who cares about the design of the controller, cause look, act as if you were to hold on to the ps3 controller (normally) and look inside of it.
notice how the shape of the palm is kind of curvy like the ps3 controler when you hold on to the control for real, when the ps3 comes out it would be very comfortable to your hand. So I don't want you complaining about the shape,cause I'm going to say"SHUT UP!"

The playstation 3 will be compatible with a usb mouse and a usb keyboard for gmaeplay!
But the xbox 360 can do that to except only for typing in messages and not for actual gameplay

Hi, I'm Tony an independent assessor for a firm in the US that rates systems. I can't give more information than that. I will say, that both systems are extraordinary! Changing the face of gaming is an understatement. The boomerang remote is quite comfortable and designed around grip, it's great. By my agreements I cannot give specifics at this time ... I'll say this... Playstation 3 won, but there were very few limiting factors that we based our decisions on. There are no biases here, I was personally rooting for the X-box.

I know all of this becuase I am a big supporter of the playstation3 console. And it is my job to hype up and spread all the latest information about and related to the playstation3. I will soon have the playstaion3 in my office testing the abilties of this powerful console.

I am gonna have to be patient and wait for both consoles to be out for a while... let the bugs and what-not get worked out, and more importantly, see who actually has a better software selection. Either machine has kick-butt specs, but I want to see how the developers can take advantage of such horsepower. I could spend the same money on a graphics card for my PC, but in 18 months it will be old news. Give a console 18 months and you will see how the game developers better utilize the power in them. Forget wireless this and usb that, its all about the gameplay experience after all!

Hmmm..........for the time being, I will refrain from showing any malice for the new design for the controller. The d-pad on the original design all ways gives me problems when I'm playing 2D fighting games like KOF and Streetfighter, but the d-pad on this new controller looks like it will accomodate for smoother command input.

Hmm...I read through about half of the page and my eyes are hurting now.
As far as the amount of controllers for PS3 go...everyone is freaking out because there's not an even amount...WELL, you are all assuming that all games that have multiplayer are head-to-head games. Think about having 7 people on the same team?

The way i see it, PS3 has better stats and much more experience in the gaming world than XBox. Yes, xbox was slightly better than ps2...but it came out something like 18 months later! I would hope it was a LOT better after being that much later.

The way I see it...if you can afford it, get both. If you don't want to spend that much money than the most logical thing to do it wait a few months after PS3 has been released and see true comparisons of both the systems.

I have have all of sony's consoles; this battle between microsoft and sony will be no different.

I had a question about the new PS3. Everything sounds great except one thing...
It is now confirmed that the system will be backwards compatible but what about your saved games? I didn't hear anything about a PS2 or PS1 Memory Card slot, and this worries me because we shouldn't have to keep our PS2's just because we want to keep our saved games!!! That just doesn't make sense.
IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME OUT HERE, I WOULD APPRECIATE A RESPONSE!!!

I will admit that the PS3 has more power than the XBOX 360,. but will you be able to use the extra power? If you can't then what would be the point in throwing in all that extra power if it goes to waste, and to pay extra just for the extra power that you can't use would be simply retarded.

And there are probably flaws for the XBOX 360 too, there has to be so until we know exactly how both of the systrems work and operate and we know what their flaws and/or drawbacks are, the why don't we stop arguing over which one is better than the other. The PS3 is supposed to be 2x better then XBOX 360, 15x better then Nintendo Revolution (graphics) the first games coming for the system will definately be Final Fantasy 12 and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. The controllers do look weird but from what Ive heard they may be more comfortable. Ive also read that there is a Plugin for the PSP system. Who knows exactly though but I think the PS3 will whipe out 360 completely once it makes the scene in March.

it's too bad they took out the joystick functionality on the controllers.. it's wierd that they wouldn't just remove them from the controller itself though. they actually left the joysticks on the paddle and just moved them out of reach

I gotta laugh when I read all these reviews. Let's face it, both the X-Box, and PS2 are similar machines, with similar power and graphics. There is no reason to believe that the new systems will be much different. It doesn't matter what they say they are capable of, people will purchase the brand they are most loyal to, period.

I hope that the PS3 has enough good games to support its great capabilities. Xbox has been good at making making games so far, and it probably will continue that trend. I think one of key things the PS3 has to do to prove it is better, is equal Xbox's quality of games, or exceed them.

I like this a lot. I just bought PSP. Ill hold out on PS3 for a while cuz I can take PSP anywhere. Maybe Ill get it for christmas. I had PS2 since it came out. It's better than nothing!

i have a feeling that no. ps2 remote will not work in ps3 because ps3 don't have any portrs for the remote to plug in... it will be wireless controllers using Bluetooth technology. that is what i assume according to the news. but i know that the ps1 and ps2 games will work for sure on ps3. for those who are thinking about the price, it will end up at arround 500$ according to GameSpot!

I had a chance to buy an xbox360 at $400 retail at a store the other day, but a worker there that I know has one said...That he's fed up with it since there are no games out that are really good, and he gets them for free, so he would know.
I am committed to waiting for a ps3, and hopefully it'll be worth the wait. Also looking for where I can pre-order one or maybe 2.

I think Microsoft rushed it's system out of production/conception in order to beat the ps3 and while that succeded, in the long haul i think obvious hardware deficency's on microsofts part will become evident..... because lets face it microsoft could have made a better system, just not a better system quicker.

Well I"ll tell you right now that I am not a XBOX kind of person ,I have disliked them things since the first one came out. Of course everybody knows that microsoft created this piece of junk. And I'll also tell you that I dont feel safe having a bunch of computer nerds creating the game console's we use today ,when there use to labtops and flat screen moniters. I"ll always be for playstation, because I'll feel like sony and the people that work there are more highly advanced than microsoft. So I dont care how long it takes I'll always be waiting on playstation 3 and I think 110% you should too. BELIEVE ME IT WILL BE WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ps3 V X-box360. Ps3 is faster from a number of angles. Over all it comes out with about twice as much peformance power the x-box360. It can handle two tv's and up to eight controllers. True and official, 8. But everyone knows its down to the games but Sony is well renowned for having better games than Microsoft, so hands down Ps3 is the clear winner!

And just to ad to what i was just sayin, i havn't yet played a single x-box360 game that had me comin back for. Even if that stupid console wasn't so noisy and didn't keep crashing i still woudn't buy it!

I watched the E3 PReview of PS3 I am so excited( im saving up my money now) But is it really worth buying PS3 because I Don't know if I will get bored with this system too. i've seen the gameplay and its fantastic!! If you don't beleive me just go to gamespot.com and stream some for yourself. it blows away any gameplay i've seen on the Xbox 360... check that out too. (I8) and (Killing Day) as well as (Heavenly Sword) look awesome and there is a off road racing game called (Motorstorm) for the PS3, that's graphics blow away anything on planet earth. "please watch the playlist trailers for this game." that being said and Mind you, the early releases of any console games pretty well suck cause game developers are new to these systems technologies and are learning to develop for them with current software engines which never are even close to using that consoles power . just look at any consoles first game releases compared to that 2nd gen. consoles releases now, although i think sony will have some fantastic releases this time because of past failures.

One thing is sure. PS3 will not be beaten by Xbox.

First of all, I am in Japan. And althought Xbox is released here, honestly nobody cares. Everybody will wait and buy PS3. Japan is still a huge consumer base for the gaming world. Americans just don't realize it. And we just don't care about Xbox. The only games I think that Japanese gamers care about for Xbox is Itagaki and Dead or Alive.

I have also read this thread and noticed a lot of things. First of all: Blu-ray DVD supported games on the PS3 are a very important thing. They allow the games to hold a great deal of data without compromising. The Xbox's DVDs do not hold enough to sufficiently support the size that next-generation games will require. Developers will have to take short-cuts to fit their games onto those discs, resulting in games that do not live up to their full potential.

Second; Sony's system is simply more future-oriented. Right now there aren't that many HDTVs or Blu-ray players in households out there. But when Blu-ray becomes the new format for DVDs (and it will), people will already have players in the form of PS3s, thus taking a large part of the market share in this seemingly unrelated sector.

Third; backwards compatibility is huge. I don't know so much in America, but here in Japan, we play old games a lot. The fact that I can simply take out my PS3 and go play Vagrant Story or Final Fantasy Tactics on it does mean a lot to me.

Fourth; the quality of games is simply different. Microsoft focuses on first person shooters, which we Japanese hate anyway, and Sony has a great deal of RPGs, which are going to sell better here.

I just have a strong feeling that it is going to be something very similar to the Sega Dreamcast. The only difference is that the upcoming Gamecube and Xbox nailed the final coffins in the Dreamcast. Now, there are only two systems coming out, one of them (Revolution) only AIMING at a minority of the market, and investing accordingly, so Xbox will not be made utterly extinct; but it will be soundly defeated in terms of sales, I believe.

La ps3 va a ser mejor por 1 simple razon.... es japonesa , la xbox 360 es norteamericana y los juegos q salgan para cada 1 son muy distintos , por mas q una tenga un par de fps mas q la otra en un juego o se vea mejor, la mejor de las 2 va a ser la q tenga los mejores juegos.
Y los mejores juegos son de sony, konami,capcom etc..empresas japonesas ;juegos japoneses los mejores.
Gran turismo 5 , q juego de autos de xbox 360 puede suoperar eso? xD

A total newbie with lcd and so far not liking what I see.

I have a new 37" dell lcd tv, I am running xbox on it for my games and movies.

However, I am getting the jaggies or unclear picture when things are moving. Alot of people in the background of any pic looks aliased.

Is there any hope, or should I go back to CRT.

Not sure I made the right move.

And... is this the fault of the tv or the xbox.

And... will bluray help with the jaggies.

I have a 360, In the beginning they had a few bugs but i bought one after they were fixed and prices went down just a bit. So Far I think its cool, has some pretty good games now and on the way. PS3 looks amazing as well, however, after my experience with Playstation online I really see how much better Xbox live is and that was its major selling point for me. Im sorry Playstation but I can only take so many wierd samauri rpg games.

And for the genius who said the xbox had no live demos you need to get and education. The ps3 demos were mostly cutscenes. And the ones that werent suk3d wang. The 360 had almost all live demos. Were you at e3...no.

Playstation RULES!! It has always ruled from the very start to this day and ever will!! Isn't it "crap" how you have to purchase the "silver" xbox2 or, you have to pay for xbox live.... Ps3... Free what ever happens! The video ram... Does it only have 256mb or does it have 2 lots? I say this because the xbox 360 only mensions one lot of "memory".... Still, 256 is still plenty enough for "literally" pixel perfect games..... What I REALLY like about the ps2 is that in on horizons (gta mostly obvious) it blurs and then appears (what ever it is on the horizon), xbox= ordinary....................

Am gonna sit back relax, let big corps fight it out. I'll wait this time. Id say a year from now, then I'll be able to say (with proof) that one system is better than the other. There are lots of things to consider, games available, how well they multi-play, how long does the controller last before needing charged up? more questions than answers at the moment. Ill go back and play my old console for a bit longer................

sony will prob. be too. i can count on one hand how many buddies of mine had a working ps2 4 months after its release (sadly prob. about same amount as 360 owners out there that have a working one still lol).

bad business to buy a new console, better to wait a year for price drop, and hopefully they will work out the bugs in the systems by then 2 boot.
