Half Life 2 Rocks

I don't get the chance to play a lot of PC games, but when it became clear that Valve/Sierra/Vivendi Universal was--after numerous tortuous delays--really going to launch Half Life 2 last week, I decided it was time for me to spend a little quality time with my pistol-packing alter ego, Gordon Freeman. (And when I say alter ego, I really do mean it--the guy looks an awful lot like a shorter-haired version of me.)

I didn't load up the game until the weekend, which is probably good since so many people who tried to play on the launch day ran into problems with its onerous activation procedure. Aside from the whole process annoying me, I haven't experienced any problems.

And once I started playing, I forgot all about the hassle. Half Life 2 is a beautiful game, with tons of eye candy, solvable puzzles, and an engrossing storyline. Plus there's a new gravity weapon that lets you do things like move around big stuff like cars. How cool is that?

This game sucks you in to such a degree it's very easy to lose track of time. I declared my intention to play the game "all day Sunday," and for the most part I did (though my loving wife did encourage stops for food and water). And I loved nearly every minute of it.

If you're an occasional PC gamer, and you're on the fence about trying Half Life 2, I recommend you give it a try. If you've got a fairly recent-vintage PC, adequate speakers, and a large display, you're in for a quite a treat.

Best game I've ever played. I wasted the entire weekend playing, lol.

I still can't believe how real everything looks. I guess the money I spent on the x800 was worth it. :)

Half-life 2 is undoubtdely the greatest game of all time ,revolutionary, and SUPERB. delectible in every way. Enjoy this game there may never be as good a game as this one for a long time. it makes me want to cry. i love this game. and i normally dont like video games that much but this.......OMG. Clearly here are other good games such as world of warcraft guildwars Doom3 farcry etc, but Half-life 2 TEARS THESE GAMES INTO MILLIONS UPON TRILLIONS UPON QUADRILLIONS of tiny little pieces with utter ease. You are foolish to think otherwise

When I first played the first Half-Life, I was hooked. When I heard about the second, I went nuts. I bought it as soon as I could, with a new G-Force card. When I saw how beautiful the game was, I was speechless.
An awesome story line and amazing scenery, Half-Life 2 is one of the greatest games ever made.

d*mn straight. Half-life 2 displays the essence of a theme that is timeless. As one continues their journey into a pilgrimage, or in other words, a form of self-discovery that helps one encounter things about themselves that they would never think about, or even consider. And these things become very apparent in the person's life, and as one continues to live, continues to grow in these different thoughts. Questions become developed from a clearly intriging set of events that develop what we call a "story" or "story line". It is actually ourselves who makes the set of events become a story. And when one makes a video game that traps the mind in a psychological world. Emotion instead of time, and Beauty instead of worries, we then create a "story", which is actually a state of being, and a theoretical creation from our minds... just buy the d#mn thing.

I brought this game back in july this year and it KICKS ASS!!!
The game has a great story line easy enough to follow it has its twists and turns its cool. The sound is GREAT i give that a 10 out of 10 but there needs to be a soundtrack that plays throught the whole game but the music is awsome when it does play in those intence gaming moments. The grapics are so wonderfully done it looks so real the water looks like water thats real imcreadable. I THINK ITS A MUST BUY!!!
It blows farcry out of the water but im a huge world of warcraft fan lol. GO THE ALIANCE

And nobody complains about the stutterin issue that a great many people have had with the game.

The box said I would be able to run the damn thing. And I could.. With pauses every ten seconds.

And support? They siuck. I've reported the issue no less than three times, and got no help whatsoever.

Its probably a great game, but between the draconian registration, steam being a horrible piece of crap, the stuttering issue, and lack of support, I cannot reccomend this.

This. Is. The. Best. Game. Ever. Created.

I swear I almost had an orgasm when I loaded up the frist level. Its like sex for my eyes. Full settings HL2 ... OMFG.

And that's only the graphics. It's almost like valve knew exactly what setting and story elements I love from every book, movie or game, and stuck them all in. Every one. It's like the Holocaust, Orwell, and War of the Worlds all rolled into one. Alien technologies, evil dictators, police states, this game HAS IT ALL.

There is just so much professionalism, polish, fun, and intrigue in this game, it really blows away anything else. This makes PC games an art form. Right up there with Prose and Film.

Just buy this. If this isn't the best thing you have ever experienced, then you should be shot. Seriously.

I enjoyed HL2 just as much as the next guy - tt was fun and took a couple of days to finish. Unfortunately, it's just ProgressQuest with a new face. You go from Point A to Point B, and don't forget the Keycard! It's the same formula as every other FPS in existance, not unlike the original Doom or Ken's Labrynth.

That doesn't keep it from being a great looking and fun game but it's far from revolutionary.

The fact that HL2 comes with Counter Strick: Source is a bonus that shouldn't be underestimated. I played HL2 for about a week, but I still play CSS almost every weekend for at least a couple hours. Huge reply value in multiplayer games; especially onces where the community sets the rules and the players don't have a monthly payment.

As far as the "Lost Coast" freebie level, it's cool. The lighting is nice and the textures are higher resolution. It doesn't actually look all that much better then the rest of the game though as HL2 looks great all around to start with.

I'm not sure what "non believers" Strobeone is referring to, but I don't think anyone should be shot. HL2 is a good game (and it looks great,) albiet with the simple plot and linear progress, and CS:S is a great addition to the package.

I was actualy not expecting Half Life 2 to live up to Half Life, but it actualy surpassed it! Anyone who accuses this game of being "linear" needs to get out and explore a bit, there is just so much to do and it all looks so good.

Every time I play this out-of-this-world game I get an orgasm after ogasm. In between plays, I find myself thinking about it all the time. I find myself re-experiencing some of the breathtaking scenes I have gone through in the game in my mind! Yes, at work. I see the open spaces, the quietness amongst nature, the calm and soothing environment with its beauty. The orangy hue of the setting sun and the occasional flapping of some bird's wings flying above. SIMPLY A DREAM!!! EVERYONE MUST EXPERIENCE HL-2! HL started it, (amazing game), BUT HL-2 JUST BLOWS MY BRAINS OUT. And tonight, I shall have a few more orgasms with it. I am only half way through the game, thank God, and I never want it to end, but I know it has to eventually. I will be replaying it though, many many times I am sure. And of course I will be buying every subsequent episode!!! Yummy!

To anyone who has a motherboard with a VIA chipset: BEWARE!!! Since the hl 1.1.0.9 update,
VIA chipsets are now only barely supported. HL1 will run fine, but for some people like me who truely loved HL and HL2, unfortunaltely HL2 no longer works, period. I get it to the "Preparing to launch half-life 2...." screen then it drops back to the desktop without doing anything. Pisses me off. To be honest, I am ready to take HL2 back to wally world for a refund, and I know (thru the net) of at least 25 others who also have (or will) do the same.
VALVe should be bent over and spanked like a b!tch for taking a perfectly working game and RUINING it for at least 1/3 of the people who bought the PC version. Sad that they don't care, and never answer tech support questions about the issue.....I want my damn money back!!! I'll play something else, but I hate having 5 cds of HL2 that are absolutely useless to me now. And HAVING TO LOG IN ONLINE TO PLAY A SINGLE-PLAYER GAME?!?! THAT IS JUST RETARDED!!!!!
VALVe.....Take your game and shove it where the sun don't shine!!!!
That, or FIX IT!!!!!!! AMEN!

Oh yeah, and BTW: I bought a new hard drive and re-installed my OS (WinXPPro), but it didn't
help. It seems the fact that Steam automatically updates the game makes it impossible to fix the problem on the client's end without writing some kinda hack for it....
I guess I need a new motherboard if I'm ever gonna play HL2 again.... ::sigh::
I miss it so.....

Came across this looking for a way to get HL2 to run..It's pure bs that I pay good bucks for a game and it cannot be played in single player mode..If anyone reading this is in a area where broadband is not available DO NOT GET THIS GAME!!!!!
I have been attempting to get it to start for over 4 hrs now..Seems that Valve left out the part on the box that one must be connected to the internet to play single player. They also fail to mention that STEAM either times out or is busy or you must download close to 400mb of updates just to get it to work..So far it still does not work.It keeps wanting to log onto the internet even though I have done the registration, authentication and cd key entries as requested by STEAM....Bottom line IMO,tis Crap!!!!
