Calling out a big hooray for a federal California judge who today blocked a violent video game law that in 2005 made labeling violent video games and barring their sale to minors state law. Leaving the constitutionality debate to the ophidians (I mean competitive semanticists...err, I mean lawyers), this is great news for proponents of self-regulation...at least as far as aesthetics are concerned.
You have to love Adam Tanner (the Reuters reporter) who nails the legislative hypocrisy with a wink and a nod: "California passed a law in 2005 regulating video games with strong support from Schwarzenegger, the former star of many violent action films." Go-go-governator...

Next stop? The U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. And I think we can already safely venture a guess as to what their verdict's going to be.
Anyone else find it ironic that conservatives tend to favor self-regulation when it involves profit, but generally opposed to autonomy when it comes to "art"?
