To quote a great sage and rocker, I was born in a small town. Make that eight years scrambling around a backyard hill wide and long as a crooked football field, and because this was still the early 1970s, essentially computer and video game exempt. One of my favorite pastimes (when I wasn't coloring long slats of wood green and blue to resemble lightsabers)? Dressing up like Indiana Jones.
Finding a hybrid "Type 440" and A-2 leather jacket? Impossible. Locating a .45 ACP Smith & Wesson Hand Ejector 2nd model (plastic or otherwise)? Tricky. Buying a decent knockoff of the official Herbert Johnson Poet wide-brimmed fedora and 10ft No. 455 kangaroo plaited David Morgan bullwhip? Easier said than done (somehow we managed, anyway). Kitting up like a scrawny baby-cheeked half-pint Harrison Ford? Priceless.
So call it nostalgia or maybe just the Best. News. Ever. I predicted they'd do it years ago, and now they have: LEGO Indiana Jones the Video Game will, ahem, "whip" onto game consoles next summer, 2008.
All we know from the official press release is that it's being developed by Traveller's Tales (the same team that created LEGO Star Wars), that it'll be one game covering the first three films, that it'll keep with the tongue-in-cheek humor, and that you can get your hands on the actual LEGO Indiana Jones playsets in January 2008.
Here's the trailer:
And while it has nothing to do with the game officially, check out "The Rescue." It's brilliant.
