August 28 (the day Heroes Season One streets) can't get here fast enough, and I say that with nothing but halfhearted regard for the show's debut episode, which at the time and for reasons I'll attribute entirely to my own aesthetic shortcomings failed to induce me to watch further. My friends, on the other hand, including the writer on one of Marvel's preeminent ensemble books (who you'd think ought therefore to know) all rave about it, which always makes me feel like the chump who missed the world's best geek-bash. Let's just say I panned Buffy after the first season and lived to regret it.
Cue the inevitable Heroes video game adaptation, just announced today by French developer Ubisoft and slated to arrive sometime in late 2008. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the deal authorizes Ubisoft to create a third-person action game bringing the series characters, locations, and stories to "next-generation" game consoles (I don't know if this excludes the Wii?) and the PC. Rather than focus on a specific character, the game will highlight the entire cast, and the narrative will parallel (as opposed to bridge or retell) the series stories.
Check back for more information on the game courtesy panel presentations at Comic-Con in San Diego, which runs today through Sunday.
