Microsoft Admits Xbox 360 Failures, Bumps Warranty

xbox_360_thumbsup.jpg Today's "best company in the world" award has to go to Microsoft, which, under mounting consumer pressure over hardware malfunctioning issues, is extending the warranty of the Xbox 360 from one to three years due to an "unacceptable number of repairs."

According to sister site GamePro, the move may cost Microsoft as much as $1 billion and change...and that's just for its most recent business quarter. While I know this is a company with nigh-infinitely deep pockets, even I flinched a little reading that figure.

What's more, the company says it will reimburse customers who've paid for repairs related to the so called "red ring of death" error message.

Cynics take a hike for 24 hours, and let's all give Microsoft a hearty round of applause for stepping up when it mattered.

And to Microsoft's competitors? Take notes.

I am glad Microsoft is taking responsibility for a product flaw. Frankly, I think they should have taken a little while longer before release to test for bugs and hardware problems. But whatever, what's done is done, and Microsoft is stepping up to the plate by bumping up the warranty. It doesn't seem like often we can say something like, Good job, Microsoft.

Yeah unfortunately I sold my 360 for parts... they waited too long to boost it. I spent 2 hours on the phone debating it with a supervisor at whatever company they outsource to and he said "We'd be stupid to replace it just because it's broken" and stuff. I guess he wasn't the business savvy expert he thought he was. Too bad I'll never buy anoher M$ product again. Sony price drop came at the right time for all us disgruntled 360ers
