Thin Is In With Samsung's Camera/PMP

After two visits to the beach over the holiday weekend, it was easy to confirm that thin is, in fact, in. Although this can sometimes be alarming in people, with digital cameras it's pretty nice -- especially when there are extra goodies packed in there.
Case in point: Samsung's new NV series includes the $349 7-megapixel
NV3, a slip of a camera at 3.7''x2.2''x0.7''. The camera includes 3X optical zoom, two kinds of camera shake reduction, the usual army of scene modes (though it also allows for manual shutter and aperture control), 640x480 30-fps video recording with audio, and basic in-camera movie editing.
The NV3 also includes some PMP functions: it can play back audio and video. The downside is that you first have to convert files for playback on the NV3 (the included software reads MP3, WAV, MPEG, AVI, MOV, WMV and ASF). The NV3 will be available this fall.
I thought the Pentax AE310(I think that is the correct) nomenclature for the camera. It has all the things you mentioned. It has one kind of shake reduction. It does every thing you stated. So! why shoukd it be better than a Pentax. What does thin, turn people on so much. I am for the thin whithin reason and this feature is good but sometimes, I think they can go to the extreme.
In a word: portability. It's easier for me to slide a thin cell phone/PDA/camera into or out of the inner pocket in my knapsack than a thicker one, for instance.
