Get Exactly the Right Amount of Fun in the Sun

personal-uv-monitor.jpgIf you love spending time outdoors on sunny days but aren't into the whole sunburn/skin cancer thing, you probably slather yourself with sunscreen and either keep your eye on the clock or wait until you hear the sizzle of your lightly broiling flesh -- not the most fun way to pass an afternoon.

Today's New York Times features another way to keep track of those pesky UV rays. Oregon Scientific's Personal UV Monitor uses your skin type, the SPF of the sunscreen you're using and the current UV level and temperature to provide an "exposure timer" that lets you know how long you've got until you should go inside and catch some summer reruns instead. I'm sure more than a few smart kids will hack theirs to get out of mowing the lawn.
