PS3: In Time for T-Day

PS3 scaled 2.jpgYay, for Sony. Admission is the first step toward recovery. So it was a big step when Sony finally admitted that the PlayStation 3 has officially been delayed.

Sony's next-generation console was originally due out in Spring of 2006, but it was becoming clear to all that the company wasn't going to meet that date. So today, Sony Computer Entertainment President Ken Kutaragi officially announced that the PlayStation 3 will now launch in November, worldwide. Before Thanksgiving, he promised. (Oh, joy. Another Turkey Day down the drain. Bye-bye, hubby. If you recall, the Xbox 360 came out right before Thanksgiving last year.)

Kutaragi said that the change in date is due to delays in finalizing the Blu-ray specification. And he also confirmed that the company was working on an online gaming service called the PlayStation Network Platform (a service akin to Xbox Live), which he says is (hopefully) going to be free. Again, nothing new, but at least now we have it from the horse's mouth.
