... well, if you're in Japan at least!
Nintendo said Wednesday that a version of the Opera Web browser for the Nintendo DS handheld will be available from June for ?3,800 (US$32). It makes sense as the DS already has a WiFi adapter built-in.
The Nintendo DS has two screens and the browser will make use of both. The lower screen will show an overview of the entire Web page while the top screen will show a magnified view of an area selected by the user. (see the second picture for an idea of how this will work)
A tuner for a soon-to-be-launched digital TV service for portable devices will also be offered later this year. No price was given for that.
The TV service -- called "one seg" -- will start in April and tests are already underway. It's getting a lot of support from Japanese gadget makers and there are already several products on the market or coming soon that will support it.
No word on plans for the browser or TV support for outside of Japan.
Users should love it because it gives them access to all the major TV networks in a clear, digital picture.
