No matter what happens on the slot machines at Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport, anyone who switches on their laptop or PDA will be a winner: the entire airport is wired for WiFi and it's free.
I used it the day I arrived in Las Vegas and it worked great. So what a contrast it was when I arrived at the Sands Expo and Conference Center, home to the CES expansion. The expo center is also wired for WiFi but charges for it. This was the most expensive WiFi I've seen and I didn't see too many people using it.
I captured the log-in screen, shown left. I guess it's aimed at exhibitors so perhaps the prices are cheap compared to wired connections to show booths but the prices probably don't appeal much to show visitors.
BTW, it seems McCarran Airport is really quick in adopting new technology and putting it to use in making things easier for its customers. Network World wrote about McCarran's WiFi and RFID plans last year.
Typical Las Vegas opportunism!
